C. The successful Contractor will be supplied with 10 sets of the Drawings and Specifications after award of the Contract, at no expense to the Contractor.
1.4 DRAWING FORMATS AND CONVENTIONS
A. Drawing Format: The Drawings are organized in industry-standard discipline format.
1. Sheet / Drawing Numbering: The sheets of the drawing set display a dual numbering system. Drawings are numbered with letters identifying the discipline and numbers identifying both the drawing type and sequence. In addition, the sheets are numbered sequentially (1 of “total number in set”) from the Cover/Title Sheet to the final sheet in the set.
2. Volumes: The Drawings may be divided into two or more volumes for ease of binding.
B. Drawing Content: The Drawings use industry-standard conventions for the style of language, symbols, and layout.
1.5 SPECIFICATION FORMATS AND CONVENTIONS
A. Specification/Project Manual Format: The Specifications are organized into Divisions and
Sections using the 50-division format and CSI/CSC's "MasterFormat" numbering system.
1. Section Identification: The Specifications use section numbers and titles to help cross-referencing in the Contract Documents. Sections in the Specifications/Project Manual are in numeric sequence; however, the sequence may be incomplete. Consult the table of contents at the beginning of the Specifications/Project Manual to determine numbers and names of sections in the Contract Documents.
2. Page Numbering: The pages of the Specifications/Project Manual are numbered sequentially in the upper right hand corner (header). Individual sections may or may not include subordinate section page numbering at the bottom of the page (footer).
3. Volumes: The Specifications/Project Manual may be divided into two or more volumes for ease of binding.
B. Specification Content: The Specifications use certain conventions for the style of language and the intended meaning of certain terms, words, and phrases when used in particular situations.
These conventions are as follows:
1. Abbreviated Language: Language used in the Specifications and other Contract
Documents is abbreviated. Words and meanings shall be interpreted as appropriate.
01 00 00 - 4 of 4
Words implied, but not stated, shall be inferred as the sense requires. Singular words shall be interpreted as plural, and plural words shall be interpreted as singular where applicable as the context of the Contract Documents indicates.
2. Imperative mood and streamlined language are generally used in the Specifications.
Requirements expressed in the imperative mood are to be performed by Contractor.
Occasionally, the indicative or subjunctive mood may be used in the Section Text for clarity to describe responsibilities that must be fulfilled indirectly by Contractor or by others when so noted.
a. The words "shall," "shall be," or "shall comply with," depending on the context, are implied where a colon (:) is used within a sentence or phrase.
1.6 ELECTRONIC DATA
A. General: Electronic copies of CAD Drawings of the Contract Drawings may or may not be provided by the COTR for Contractor's use in preparing submittals. If provided, however, electronic data is non-contractural. It is provided for reference purposes only for the convenience of the Contractor and may not be used for any other facility other than that for which it was prepared. Neither the Architect/Engineer nor the Smithsonian Institution guarantee that the files are complete, current, and accurate; thus use of electronic data is at the Contractor’s risk. By accepting these CAD files, the Contractor agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless both the Architect/Engineer, its consultants, and the Smithsonian Institution from any and all claims, damages, losses and expenses arising from the use of the electronic data.
