MEDICAL CENTER & CBOC CLEANING MATRIX

CONFIRMED COVID-19

PRIVATE/SINGLE PATIENT ROOM

COVID-19 PATIENT DISCHARGE

FROM A SEMI-PRIVATE ROOM

NON-COVID-19 PUBLIC AREAS

Cleaning Requirements Follow two-step cleaning process whenever a patient is discharged from the room regardless of what type of private room or setting.

Clean and disinfect all high touch surfaces between patients (exam tables, side chairs, blood pressure cuffs, doorknobs, grab bars, faucet handles, sinks, etc.).

Allow proper air exchanges to complete prior to terminal cleaning. Refer to CDC Airborne Contaminant Removal Table.

Staff may enter the room prior to the recommended air exchanges as long as appropriate PPE for COVID-19 patient care is donned.

All non-dedicated, non-disposable medical equipment used for that patient should be cleaned and disinfected according to manufacturer’s instructions and facility policies before use on another patient.

Note: For designation of staff performing daily cleaning requirements of high touch surfaces, follow updated CDC guidance.

(Note: A COVID-19 semi-private room is used for cohorting patients who are COVID-19 positive), Follow two-step cleaning process whenever a patient is discharged from the room, regardless of what type of semi-private room or setting.

Clean and disinfect all high touch surfaces between patients (exam tables, blood pressure cuffs, side chairs, doorknobs, grab bars, faucet handles, sinks, etc.).

Waiting for air exchanges is not required. EMS staff entering a -private room/ward occupied by a patient with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection should adhere to standard precautions and use a NIOSH-approved N95 or equivalent or higher-level respirator, gown, gloves, and eye protection (i.e., goggles or a face shield that covers the front and sides of the face). Additional information about appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for HCP can be found here: Protecting Healthcare Personnel |

HAI | CDC.

All non-dedicated, non-disposable medical equipment used for that patient should be cleaned and disinfected according to manufacturer’s

Follow cleaning and disinfecting process for a non-isolation room cleaning. For combination products (detergent and disinfectant), use a two-step cleaning process when bodily fluids and/or debris are present.

Consult with local Infection Prevention and Control. If COVID is at high levels in your community, it may be recommended to use the same frequency for cleaning for all rooms, regardless if the patient is non-COVID or COVID positive.

Follow two-step cleaning process.

Increase daily cleaning in corridors, public restrooms, entrances, check-in areas, elevators, and patient waiting areas. Consult with local Infection Prevention and Control. If COVID is at high levels in your community, the frequency of cleaning may be increased.

Consider staffing availability to determine cleaning frequency.
