SST_SOW-001 Jan. 14, 2025

1 Introduction This Statement of Work (hereafter SOW) will be the basis for the procurement of sixteen (16) charge readout plane support superstructures (CRP-SSTs) for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) Vertical Drift (VD) detector. This document outlines the Contractor’s responsibilities and obligations necessary for completing the requirements as set forth herein.

1.1 Overview

DUNE will feature two (2) “Far Site” liquid Argon cryostats, and these structures will be constructed in the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in South Dakota. Due to the different technologies used in the design of these experiments, each cryostat will require unique tooling and installation procedures for the assembly of all internal components.

Within the VD cryostat, two (2) of the main component systems are the central cathode plane and the upper/lower anode planes. The anode planes are integrated into charge readout planes (CRPs), and these components are mounted underneath the CRP-SSTs. At the horizontal midplane of the detector is an array of cathode modules suspended with Dyneema ropes from the CRP-SST frames. These frames are a critical structural component within this detector and require precision fabrication with strict tolerances.

2 Applicable Documents The document herein defines the statement of work requirements for the BSA VD CRP-SSTs. This document shall be read in conjunction with Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) document BSA_VD_CRP-SST_SPC- 001 and technical specification drawings “2874228-01_-_FD2_CRP-SST-01_10-30-2025” & “2874228-02_- _FD2_CRP-SST-01_10-30-2025”. Test and inspection procedures required to demonstrate satisfactory completion of requirements shall be prepared by the Contractor and submitted to BSA for approval sixty calendar (60) days prior to the use of such procedures.

BSA reserves the right to modify the tests or to require any additional test procedures or details deemed necessary to determine compliance with the requirements of this SOW. The test details, such as fixture design, length of cycle, use of limited life material, etc., shall be part of the test procedures to be submitted. Once approved, changes/revisions shall be approved by the BSA technical representative prior to implementation.

4.8 Test Records

Test records shall be prepared and maintained for all tests herein. Records shall show test dates, test conditions, test equipment/instrumentation/gages identification (name, model/part number, serial number), test pressures, test durations, leakage rates, and other system characteristics. Test records shall be well organized and shall clearly and uniquely identify each test record to the specific item tested, and its final installed location. For this reason, drawings shall be included in test records.

Records shall include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Inspection and sign-off of raw material certifications.

2. Periodic inspection and sign-off of processes performed throughout fabrication.

3. Inspection and sign-off of dimensional tolerance checks with measured values.

4. Inspection and sign-off of adherence to BSA specifications.

5. Final dimensional survey according to BSA technical specification drawings.

6. Date, time, and signature for all inspections.

7. A report(s) must be submitted that indicates the complete inspection of welds or brazes from the initial fit-up stage through final inspection. Inspection reports must be accompanied by all radiographic films, filler metal reports etc. The reports must contain the signature or stamp, and title of an authorized Supplier representative.

4.9 Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action

The Contractor shall maintain a failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action system that must, at a minimum, evaluate, analyze and correct failures occurring during qualification, first article and end-item acceptance testing and inspection. The results of all failure evaluations and analyses must be documented and available for review by BSA.

4.10 Rework and Repairs

If a non-conformance occurs or repairs are required to an assembly or any component during manufacturing or testing that affects form, fit, function, reliability, safety, or interchangeability, the process shall stop and BSA shall be immediately notified. BSA at their discretion may ask for retesting, additional review, and evaluation to determine root causes, analyses of failure modes(s), and corrective action plan. Corrective action plans for repair shall include adequate information for evaluating the repair, testing the effectiveness of repair, and methods to prevent damage to the existing work. No repair shall be initiated without approval of the BSA technical representative. All repairs shall be at the expense of the Contractor.

4.11 Notification of Change to Design, Methods, or Processes

The Contractor must immediately notify BSA of any significant changes (those that may affect form, fit, function, reliability, safety, or interchangeability) in product design, fabrication methods, materials, or processing from those used by the Contractor at time of Contractor’s quotation or offer to BSA, which resulted in the PO.

4.12 Contractor’s Article Uniformity

The Contractor shall establish those controls and processes necessary to ensure uniformity of all deliverable articles. All controls, inspections, processes, tests and quality assurance provisions established during development and preproduction tests shall be indicated on the applicable drawing and shall be performed on each deliverable article.

4.13 Material Traceability

Materials used must be identified by material type, applicable specification and revision number, and be traceable to their lot and/or heat number(s). Traceability records must be available for review by the BSA representative.
