About this file
This document is a photographic and technical specification file for a federal repair and renovation project at Building 8401 (PX Building), Project Number BMH-EXC-B0519-6P.
The project scope encompasses comprehensive door and emergency exit repairs to achieve NFPA 101 Life Safety Code compliance. Primary deliverables include: replacing multiple escape doors (currently lockable, non-compliant) with new doors that cannot be locked; installing a new gate with integrated door at the delivery entrance (north side) to replace the existing gate; repairing and widening pavements and walkways at multiple exit points to eliminate steps and level changes; replacing deteriorated external stairs; constructing temporary stairs with structural calculations at two locations; closing wall and ceiling penetrations in fire-rated stairwell walls and mechanical rooms with fire-rated materials; removing and masking a large window opening (approximately 3.00m x 2.20m); upgrading the fire alarm detection system to provide full room coverage; adding fire-rated drywall with door around the fire alarm control panel; modifying door hardware (changing half-cylinder to standard cylinder on Door #29 for emergency access); and conducting extensive plaster, paint, and ceiling tile repairs throughout the facility. The document includes detailed photographs showing current conditions, sample reference images of desired solutions (such as modular stair systems and integrated gate doors), and floor plans identifying penetrations and work areas on both the 1st and 2nd floors. A certified designer is required to produce final design drawings. The work must comply with NFPA 101 requirements and accommodate existing building systems including electrical, mechanical, and fire safety infrastructure.
