About this file

The document is a set of construction documents for the Exterior Wood and Window Restoration project at the Varner-Hogg Plantation State Historic Site, issued by the Texas Historical Commission (THC). The project involves comprehensive restoration of windows and doors at the historic site located at 1702 North 13th Street in West Columbia, Texas. The scope of work includes detailed restoration procedures for approximately 37 different window types and 11 door types, with specific instructions for preserving historic architectural elements. The restoration will address issues such as replacing damaged glazing, repairing sash components, restoring hardware, and maintaining the original historical integrity of the windows and doors.

The project documents provide extensive technical specifications for restoration work, including guidelines for surface preparation, material selection, and restoration techniques that comply with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. The restoration will involve carefully preserving original wood elements, replacing only damaged components, and using period-appropriate materials and methods. The project is scheduled for completion by May 1, 2025, and includes detailed instructions for contractors on handling historic materials, protecting existing structures, and maintaining the site's historical authenticity. The comprehensive documentation includes elevation drawings, window and door schedules, and specific restoration notes for each architectural element, reflecting a meticulous approach to preserving the historic site's architectural heritage.
