About this file

This document is a HUB Search Assistance guide from the State of Texas explaining the NIGP (National Institute of Governmental Purchasing) Commodity/Services Code system used by the Statewide Procurement Division (SPD) and Texas Department of Information Resources to classify procurements and match vendors with state needs. The guide outlines how the NIGP coding system is organized, with class codes 001-899 designated for commodities/products and codes 900-999 for services. Specific examples are provided for both commodity codes (such as 025-43 for high pressure compressors and 204-53 for desktop/tower microcomputers) and service codes (like 918-21 for business consulting and 968-66 for right of way services).

The document provides information about the Centralized Master Bidders List (CMBL), which is a master database used by Texas purchasing entities to develop vendor mailing lists for bid opportunities. It includes links to the NIGP commodity book search, CMBL vendor search, and search tips on the Texas Comptroller's website to help vendors properly code their products or services and navigate the state's procurement system. The document serves as a resource for Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs) to better access state contracting opportunities.
