About this file

The document is a sidescan sonar survey report documenting underwater debris and pilings in the Thames River, Connecticut, conducted by SeaVision Underwater Solutions, Inc. on December 9, 2018 for Appledore Marine, Inc. The survey identified 11 distinct underwater targets, including multiple pilings, humps, beams, and a debris field, with detailed measurements for each target including height, width, length, and shadow characteristics. The survey used a Klein 3500 Sidescan Sonar at 900 kHz and an Ixblue C3 Compact PHINS inertial navigation system, with data processed using Chesapeake Technologies SonarWiz 7 software. The survey was georeferenced using the North American Datum of 1983 and utilized NOAA tide station data for vertical measurements.

1. The bathymetry depicted on this drawing represents the results of a survey performed by SeaVision Underwater Solutions, Inc. on November 24, 2018 and can only be considered to indicate the general conditions existing at that time.

2. The multibeam bathymetry depicted on this drawing has been collected with a Norbit 400 kHz CHIRP multibeam echosounder, paired with an SBG Systems Ekinox-D Inertial Navigation System The system received Real-Time Kinematic Corrections from the KeyNetGPS Virtual Reference Station (VRS) Network.

3. All data has been collected and processed using the Hypack 2018 hydrographic survey software package. The data has been collected and sorted into a grid consisting of 6-in by 6-in grid cells, where each sounding represents the average of all soundings collected in each cell. The color-shaded relief map has been generated from a triangulated irregular network (TIN) terrain model derived from the grid.

4. Horizontal positioning references the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 1983) Connecticut State Plane (feet).

5. Vertical elevations reference soundings below the plane of NOAA Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) based on NOAA Tide Station 8461490 (New London). MLLW is assumed to be -1.83-feet relative to the North American Vertical Datum of

1988 (NAVD 1988).

6. Background electronic navigation chart (ENC) imagery has been taken from NOAA Chart US5CN43M. Background aerial imagery is taken the World Imagery supplied by ESRI.

7. Background line drawings that indicate the piling foundation plan for the original pier footprint were provided by others.
