Questions and Answers during Advertisement for CA PLU CR411(1), Bucks Lake Road

January 4, 2017

Q1 – Please reference Special 261-A

Item 20720-300 is provided for Reinforcement Geosynthetic, Type 3.

Please provide an Item for Separation-Stabilization geotextile, Class 1 type C.

A1 – See sheet G2, Note #9. “Geotextile…will not be measured separately for payment.”

Q2 – Please reference Special 261-A (again)

Note 2 indicates primary reinforcement will run to edge of subgrade (RT) for the top 3 layers. Assuming the “top three layers” represent a thickness of 9 feet based on detail on this sheet. Is it your intention to run traffic through the RSS embankment during the construction (excavation and embankment)? The top 9 feet will come out first and go back in last.

A2 – The intent is to run traffic one-way, with temporary traffic signal system and temporary concrete safety barrier in place, through the cut (RT) side while constructing the RSS slopes.

Q3 – Please reference Special 261-A (again)

Special 261-A typical section is drawn to showing a 6H to 6V benching system. The drawing also however references Special 204-A for embankment benching which shows a 12H to 6V benching system. Please clarify the intended benching system and please indicate the location of the one way traffic lane while the RSS 360+00 to 363+00 is being constructed.

A3 – The BENCHING on 261-A is not to scale, as noted at the bottom of the plan sheet.

NOTE: the diagram in the lower left hand corner on 261-A is not a BENCHING detail, but a face of wall detail where is shows 1.5’ max H, and 1.5’ (typ.) V. The SLOPE FACE is 1:1 maximum slope.

For BENCHING, refer to 204-A.

While constructing RSS 360+00 to 363+00, there will be One-way traffic on the RIGHT side, with temporary concrete safety barrier and temporary traffic signals in place.

Q4 – SCR 635.19 requires the contractor to furnish 3 traffic signal trailers. Please indicate where the third signal will be located if two are sued for east and west bound CR411 traffic.

A4 – An amendment will be issued in advance of the bid opening with minor corrections to SCR 635.19, and to standard 635-9.

SCR 635.19 change: Two traffic signal trailers will be required, one each at the east and west ends of the project.

Standard 635-9 will be changed to Special 635-9.

Note 2 (Special 635-9) will be revised. Single signal installations will be required, each with two signal faces that are at least 8 feet apart and meet the other requirements of Part 4 of the MUTCD. They shall be located on the right-hand side of the road based on the direction of traffic.

Upon issuance of Special 635-9, the two temporary traffic signals currently shown on the LEFT side of the road (on Standard 635-9) will be deleted.

Q5 – Please clarify the requirements for the material to be used as Embankment RSS.

The geotechnical report indicates, “PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION…. the RSS alternative has a considerably lower cost du to the re-use of on-site materials as backfill. “

SCR 704.03 Backfill materials indicate that the maximum particle size for reinforced slopes is 4” meeting the requirements of the soil clarifications listed therein.

Is the intent to process the excavated material to meet these requirements for use as backfill?

A5 –
