QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

TIOGA PASS CA FTNP YOSE 17(3)

3/11/14

1. Are cross sections available?

No. There are no cross-sections.

2. There is 17,000 CY of excavation on the project. I am unable to determine the location of the excavation from the plans.

There is not 17,000 CY of excavation. Schedule A has 8,000 CY of excavation, and Schedule B (which includes Schedule A) has 9,000 CY of excavation. There is 2,860 CY of excavation at the Tuolumne Grove

Parking Area (Sheet B-15), an estimated 4,800 CY of excavation at the Water Tank Access Road (Sheet B-

17), and approximately 1,000 CY of excavation for slope modifications to lay back the cut slope east of

Yosemite Creek Campground Road (Sheet C-27).

3. How much embankment is there on the project? How much of excavated material will be used in the embankments? Is there waste?

The amount of embankment and the amount of excavated material used in the embankments is dependent on the Contractor’s survey and layout for the Water Tank Access Road. There will be waste which can be used for curb backfill, or as directed by the CO. Excess waste can be hauled to the Olmsted

Pit Staging Area.

4. Is there a typical detail for 24” stone masonry headwalls?

No, there is not a typical section for the headwalls. Reconstruct headwalls in a masonry pattern similar to the existing headwalls (using the photographic documentation). Installation of the first masonry headwall will be a test sample of the

Contractor’s masonry work. Complete the first masonry headwall in accordance with the plans and specifications. See Section 620 Stone Masonry for additional information.

5. Is Stone Masonry per SY the removal and reconstruction of existing and 24” Stone Masonry Headwall just new headwalls?

Pay Item, 62002-0000, Stone Masonry is to be used ONLY when “Cut Slope Headwall, Detail 5” and Note 7 (Sheet A7) is required by the CO. Pay Item 62011-0500, Stone

Masonry for 24-inch Pipe Culvert provides compensation for new headwalls where no headwall exists today.
