About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for a Department of State Residential Furniture Request for Information (RFI) issued on February 10, 2026, with a due date of February 20, 2026. The document addresses vendor inquiries regarding submission requirements, product specifications, and scope expectations for the pre-solicitation market research effort related to establishing a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) for residential furnishings under Product Service Code 7105.

Key product requirements clarified in the Q&A include that all furniture must be constructed with hardwood veneers and solid woods—laminates are not acceptable—with solid wood used in impact-vulnerable areas such as edges and corners. Tabletop surfaces must feature high-performance topcoats such as PreCat or equivalent durable finishes, and lamps should utilize durable materials resistant to shipping and household damage. Furniture must meet middle to upper bracket industry quality standards, characterized by mortise and tenon construction, real wood veneers, screw assembly rather than staples, and multi-step finishes, explicitly excluding ready-to-assemble, pressed wood, particle board, and plastic constructions. Respondents must provide capability to outfit two house types: House A (standard 3-bedroom house with Transitional, Contemporary, and Modern styles) and House B (compact urban apartment in minimalistic style with Transitional, Contemporary, and Modern characteristics). Vendors must submit all required documents including completed Attachment A specification charts to be added to the interested vendor list; capability statements alone are insufficient. Extension requests beyond the February 20, 2026 deadline must be submitted via email to CameronCR@state.gov with specific dates and are not guaranteed approval. Vendors are instructed to verify Sam.gov daily for updated RFI postings and attachments rather than relying on previously distributed links.
