About this file

This is a Data Item Description (DID) document that establishes the standardized format, content, and intended use requirements for Technical Data Packages (TDP) deliverables in federal contracts.

The DI-SESS-80776B specification, approved August 1, 2019, defines a TDP as an authoritative technical description of an item that is clear, complete, and accurate for its intended use. The TDP supports acquisition, production, inspection, engineering, and logistics activities by documenting design, configuration, performance requirements, and procedures necessary to ensure effective item performance. TDP deliverables must be provided in either Government format (as specified on the TDP Option Selection Worksheet) or contractor format, as determined by the contract. The required content elements include one or more of the following: conceptual engineering design data, developmental engineering design data with associated lists, product engineering design data with associated lists, or commercial engineering design data. Product design data must document unique manufacturing processes not generally available to industry, performance ratings, dimensional and tolerance data, critical manufacturing processes and assembly sequences, toleranced input/output characteristics, diagrams, mechanical/electrical connections, physical characteristics including finishes and coatings, material identification details, inspection/test/evaluation criteria, equipment calibration requirements, quality assurance requirements, hardware marking requirements, required certifications and testing, vendor substantiation data, software programming requirements, and special consideration items. Additional TDP elements may include Special Inspection Equipment design data, Special Tooling design data, specifications, software documentation, Special Packaging Instructions, and Quality Assurance Provisions, all in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B standards.
