Background: Based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Office (DOE ORO) is rich in history, dating back to World War II when the organization played a major role in the production of enriched uranium for the Manhattan Project. Since then, DOE ORO has expanded far beyond that first mission and supports a number of major DOE programs that include science, environmental management, nuclear fuel supply, and national security, as well as, providing support to science laboratories and facilities operated by DOE throughout the United States. Additionally, DOE ORO provides support to national security activities at the Y-12 National Security Complex managed by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Since 1995, the scope of this contract has included maintaining approximately 100 miles of roads and several hundred acres of grounds not directly under the management of the other contractors at the major Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) sites. The three major Oak Ridge sites are the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the NNSA’s Y-12 National Security Complex, and the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP). Roads and Grounds Maintenance is performed on the approximately 33,477 acre ORR located in Anderson and Roane Counties in East Tennessee.
