Amendment 000004
It is the responsibility of the Contractor to determine reel lengths, pulling lengths, and pulling locations for the entire project. Each reel length shall take into account the distance between the splice locations shown on drawing DAD-PAD 1 1005, amount needed to route down the structure from OPGW attachment to splice enclosure, amount coiled at splice enclosure, pulling length, and pulling location. The Contractor shall obtain the approval of the COR before relocating or adding optical splice enclosures. All pulling locations and pulling lengths shall be submitted to the COR at the same time the Construction program is submitted.
The OPGW shall contain 48 single-mode optical fibers and shall be equal to AFL Telecommunications Catalog Number CC-57/465.
The OPGW shall have the following characteristics:
Overall diameter not greater than 0.465-inches.
Rated breaking strength not less than 16,626 pounds.
Weight not greater than 0.314 pounds/feet.
Fault current rating not less than 43 (kA)2sec.
All optical fibers shall be equivalent to Corning type SMF-28E+ single-mode fiber (maximum attenuation at 1310 nm shall not be rated greater than 0.35 dB/km and maximum attenuation at 1550 nm shall not be rated greater than 0.2 dB/km).
Fiber optics testing is covered under the Bidding Schedule item “Furnish and install fiber optics”.
Design sag and tension of the new OPGW was based on the NESC Light Loading criteria, an example of which is shown below:
Maximum Initial Tension = 4,300 pounds.
Ruling Span = 1,346-feet.
Maximum Final Sag = 29.40-feet, at 30 degrees Fahrenheit, 9 psf wind, no ice.
Maximum Final Sag = 26.38-feet, at 60 degrees Fahrenheit, 0 psf wind, no ice.
Stringing shall strictly adhere to procedures recommended by the manufacturer. Ensure that the allowable bending radius of the fiber optic cable is not exceeded at any time.
The OPGW shall be routed down and attached to steel lattice towers at splice locations as shown on drawing 41 1027 using a standard clamp with angle attachment and standoff bolt as shown on drawing 41 1030. The OPGW shall be routed down and attached to the steel take-off structures at splice locations as shown on drawing 41 1028 using a standard clamps as shown on drawing 41 1030. The OPGW shall be routed down the structure and connected to the optical splice enclosure. Sixty-feet of OPGW shall be coiled in the external cable storage bracket before routing the OPGW to the splice enclosures.
0. Bidding Schedule item “Furnishing and installing optical splice enclosures” includes furnishing and installing the optical splice enclosures on the various types of steel lattice towers and steel take-off structures. Optical splice enclosures shall be located as shown on drawing DAD-PAD 1 1005 and the plan and profile drawings.
Splice locations shall be located at structures as shown on drawing DAD-PAD 1 1005 and the plan and profile drawings. The Contractor shall install splice enclosures and splice the OPGW at these locations.
