About this file
T-Hangar Emergency Repairs, Building 409
This is a technical specifications and construction drawings document prepared by the Hawaii Department of Transportation Airports for emergency repairs to Building 409 at Kahului Airport. The project involves structural repairs to a T-hangar facility, specifically addressing column flange repairs and truss header repairs. The work requires removal and replacement of existing column flanges on multiple columns (identified as columns 103 through 112) and repair of truss headers with new structural steel members. The repairs include demolition of corroded components, installation of new hollow structural sections (HSS 4x4x1/8), channels (C6x8.2), and thru-bolts, along with complete reinstallation of roofing after repairs are completed. All work must conform to the 2018 International Building Code as amended by the Hawaii State Building Code and AISC 360 standards for structural steel.
The project specifications mandate that structural steel members conform to ASTM standards for plates, channels, bolts, nuts, and washers, with all welding performed by certified welders in compliance with AWS D1.1/D1.1M standards using E70XX electrodes. Special inspection is required at the contractor's expense for all structural welding work in accordance with IBC 2018 Chapter 17. The contractor is responsible for all demolition work, must protect existing items to remain during construction, and must replace or blend all damaged materials to match adjacent surfaces. The contractor is required to shore trusses at affected webs and at the nearest web on both sides during both demolition and repair phases to ensure structural stability throughout the project duration.
