About this file

This document is a USDA Forest Service Fire Command Vehicle Standard specification for pick-up trucks, dated February 2013.

The specification establishes requirements for a 4-wheel drive pick-up truck in white color, available in single, extended, or crew cab configurations. Required options include short bed body, special traction differential, towing/mountain ratio, engine block heater, all-terrain tires, and increased output alternator. Additional options for cruise control, power mirrors, windows, and door locks are authorized but require approval from both regional fleet and fire management. Minimum RLS (Remote Light System) equipment must include a lightbar, grill lights, console, and siren/speaker/control head. The vehicle markings and decals are standardized across all surfaces: a 1-inch white reflective stripe centered on a 4-inch green reflective stripe runs along the side at a 45-degree angle; the front displays 4-inch equipment and unit designators in black non-reflective vinyl; the rear mirrors the front configuration; the roof displays an 18-inch equipment designator in standard black non-reflective; and the door decal includes a 10-inch FS shield with white and brown coloring, "FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY" and "US GOVERNMENT" text in brown, and a 1.5-inch equipment number, all in reflective vinyl positioned below the stripe.
