About this file
This document is a Statement of Specifications for vehicle upfitting services issued by the US Forest Service Rocky Mountain Area.
The specification outlines detailed requirements for upfitting Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge pickup trucks (1500, 2500, and 3500 models) with emergency warning and communication equipment. The lightbar requirement specifies a roof-mounted unit 48–55 inches in length with clear outer lenses, full dual-color (red, white, and amber) capability, minimum 12 LED diodes per module across 18 modules, field-replaceable modules, and a 5-year warranty as a SAE Class 1 warning light. The lightbar must support flood white, steady color, flashing at various rates, takedown, alley, and traffic advisor functionality. The light and siren controller requires a minimum 19-button multi-color control head with a 3-position slide switch, at least 2 output expansion modules with 24 outputs minimum, and programming for park kill, park patterns, rear warning lights, traffic advisor, low power, cruise lights, takedown, alley lights, and 360-degree scene lighting. A 100-watt minimum black siren speaker mounted behind the grille with 5-year manufacturer warranty is required. The specification also mandates 12 supplemental dual-color warning lights with 12 LED diodes each and flexible silicone protective lenses—4 red/white in the grille, 4 red/white at wheel wells, and 4 red/amber at the rear. Additional requirements include vinyl graphics per USDA lettering standards, VHF mobile radio installation (typically KNG-M150) with roof-mounted antenna (150–174 MHz, minimum 100-watt rating), a headliner-mounted switchable red and white dome light, a metal center console (minimum 14-gauge steel, black powder-coated, 20 inches of equipment faceplates, dual cup holder, power faceplate with USB ports, padded armrest, and magnetic mic holder), color-coded automotive-grade wire harness with schematic documentation, and a master power disconnect switch with master fuse within 18 inches of the main battery. All components require automotive-grade materials, protected connections, and heat shrink sealing where necessary.
