Building 1 Structural Condition Assessment and Images for Ft. Washakie, Wyoming Demolition

Building 1 is a single story building with a partial basement and is reportedly over 100 years of age. The original structure was constructed of rock masonry walls with a timber roof. Subsequent additions appear to be constructed of timber framing with a plaster finish. A summary of our observations is as follows:

The building burned in April 2005 and has since been abandoned.
The building is currently surrounded by a chain link fence and locked gate to prevent access. All windows and doors are boarded shut to prevent entry; see photograph 1.
Reportedly, all utilities have been disconnected from the building with visual observation of disconnected electrical lines during the site visit.
Because the exterior doors and windows have been covered with sheathing, observing the building interior was not possible during the visit. However a loose board at one location did allow for photographing the interior of the building in the southwestern wing; see photograph 2.
Burned timbers associated with the roof are visible from the ground in many places around the building. It was also observed that in multiple places the roof has either fully collapsed or collapse is impending; see photograph 3.
Leaning vent pipes located on the roof also indicate roof movement as seen in photograph 4.
During the site visit it was not possible to observe the condition of the main floor that overlies the basement to assess its ability to carry foot traffic.

The objective of this condition assessment was to determine if the building appeared to be safe for entry to collect and dispose of fire damaged debris including asbestos laden materials. If it was deemed impossible, it was reported the method of wet demolition could be used to demolish the building with heavy machinery instead of by manual labor. Said method utilizes a water shower to prevent the release of dust and contaminants during the demolition process. Given the condition of the roof and uncertainties regarding the main floor and basement, it is our opinion Building 1 is not safe for entry in its current condition.
