About this file

This is a specifications document issued by the California Department of Parks and Recreation for the boat boarding float replacement project at McAurthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, scheduled for April 2026. The project requires the fabrication, delivery, and installation of aluminum frame boarding floats with aluminum decking to replace existing boarding floats. The contractor must furnish all labor, materials, equipment, transportation, and related services necessary to manufacture and install the new boarding floats and hardware while removing and disposing of the existing floats. The new floats must connect with the existing hinge system as shown in contract plans. Key submittals required prior to fabrication include shop drawings sealed by a California-registered Professional Engineer, design calculations conforming to the Division of Boating and Waterway's 2021 Layout and Design Guidelines, floatation specifications, material sourcing documentation, welder certifications, and a fabrication and installation schedule.

The boarding floats must meet stringent design criteria including specific freeboard requirements (14-20 inches minimum to maximum under dead load only), level floating within precise tolerances, and the ability to support uniform live loads of 20 pounds per square foot and concentrated point loads of 450 pounds. Materials specifications mandate Aluminum Alloy Series 5000 or 6000 for structural frames, high-density polyethylene pontoons with expanded polystyrene floatation, and 316 stainless steel fasteners throughout. All welding must be performed by AWS D1.2-certified welders and pass state inspection, with deficient welds corrected at the contractor's expense. The contractor must demonstrate a minimum of five years of commercial aluminum and steel fabrication experience and provide three project references. The float system carries a five-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the project acceptance date, and any design criteria not met upon installation must be repaired at no additional cost to the State.
