About this file

This document is an informational exhibit describing the BioPreferred program and its designated biobased products for the construction, maintenance, and repair sector as of October 2010.

The BioPreferred program is a federal initiative managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) designed to increase the development, purchase, and use of biobased products made from agricultural, forestry, or marine materials. The program has designated over 5,000 products across 50 product categories that meet or exceed minimum biobased content levels set by USDA for federal preferred purchase. Products designated for the construction/maintenance and repair sector include: carpets; composite panels (acoustic, interior, plastic lumber, structural interior, and structural wall applications); concrete and asphalt release fluids; expanded polystyrene foam recycling products; fluid-filled transformers (synthetic ester-based and vegetable oil-based); forming lubricants; heat transfer fluids; hydraulic fluids for mobile and stationary equipment; metalworking fluids (general purpose, high performance, and straight oils); mulch and compost materials; multipurpose lubricants; parts wash solutions; roof coatings; spray insulating foams; water tank coatings; and wood and concrete sealers (membrane and penetrating types). Organizations can access the complete online product catalog at www.biopreferred.gov or submit new biobased products for inclusion by contacting biopreferred@usda.gov. The BioPreferred program office is located at 361 Reporters Building, 300 7th Street SW, Washington, DC 20024.
