About this file

This document is a bid amendment responding to vendor questions for a Request for Quote (RFQ) issued by the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for the rental of a 20-ton chiller unit and associated components for the Sheridan Correctional Center. The chiller is required for a roughly 4-month period and will operate as a self-contained, fan-driven forced air system tied into the facility's ductwork, as the existing chiller system is not functional. The amendment provides details on the 2022 and 2023 rental equipment, including a 12-ton chiller and a 5-ton unit for the entryway in 2022. The 20-ton chiller is being rented in lieu of a 12-ton unit in 2023.

The amendment clarifies that the chiller will not connect to the existing system and must be a self-sufficient, sealed unit requiring only power. No information is provided on pricing terms, set-asides, incumbents, funding sources, or other salient commercial details.

IDOC – Sheridan Correctional Center – DECRIPTION Bid #24-426DOC-SHERI-B-42847 Amendment #1 Response to Vendors’ Questions to Request for Quote (RFQ)

Below is he response to the questions that IDOC has received regarding the above RFQ:

1. Is there a chance to get an equipment list from last year’s rental? The request asks for a 20-ton chiller with ducting and cables. With ducting (size unknown), the 20-ton unit is most likely an AC unit, not a chiller.

ANSWER: Included is what we have for the 2023 and 2022 season. The 2022 season also had a 5-ton unit for the entryway, but an alternative solution was found so is not needed. The 12-ton unit was not producing ideal results, so it has been determined to rent a 20-ton unit instead of a 12-ton unit.

2023 rental of 12-ton unit

2022 rental of 12-ton unit and 5-ton unit

2. Want to confirm this is for a 20-ton chiller and not a 200-ton unit?

ANSWER: 20-ton

3. What chiller connection type is currently in place – for example camlock or flanged? What size piping is in place?

ANSWER: The chiller won’t be connecting to our existing system as we have an issue with our system and it won’t function. The chiller will need to be a self-sufficient sealed system that is just supplied with power, and it will be a fan driven forced air chiller unit that we tie into our duct work.
