Timpanogos Cave National Monument (TICA) Middle Cave Gate Project Scope of Work Place of Performance:
TICA National Monument 2038 W. Alpine Loop Road American Fork, UT 84003 Scope of Work/Requirements:
· Removal of old Middle Cave Bat Gate
· Install new Middle Cave Bat Gate
· Gate is approximately 8’ x 5’ in an irregular-shaped horizontal cave passage just inside the entrance to the Middle Cave.
· Just beyond the entrance gate the passage drops into a vertical shaft requiring Alpine Single-Rope Techniques (SRT) to access.
· Work to be conducted on the in-cave side of the gate will require SRT or a temporary platform to facilitate safe work in that area.
· Gate shall be bat friendly and shall prohibit unauthorized human access.
· Gate shall be built of durable materials and construction designed to last at minimum 20 years.
· Gate shall have a means of entry into and exit from the cave via door or section of removable bars large enough to allow movement of a Ferno-Washington stretcher.
· Door or removable section shall be designed to protect the lock/hasp area from vandalism, while facilitating easy operation of a standard size NPS padlock from either side of the gate.
· Design shall mitigate the risk of dropping loose gate bars, door locks, or hasp pins into the pit below.
· The main power cable for the cave electricity enters the cave system through the Middle Cave Entrance.
· It is a double-shielded 3” diameter mining-type cable and shall pass through the gate on its route into the cave.
· Project involves procurement and transport of materials, personnel, and equipment from the maintenance area at 5,400’ up the paved trail to the Hansen Cave entrance area that is at 6,700’ and then up a system of safety ropes and cables to arrive at the Middle Cave entrance.
· Equipment and personnel shall be suitable for the strenuous, exposed, and vertically technical conditions necessary to reach and work at the site.
Additional Information:
· NPS can provide motorized equipment and operators for hauling materials from the maintenance area to the Hansen Cave entrance, provide rigging and expertise necessary to acce4ss the site, guidance/on-site assistance, and resource monitoring.
· There is access to electric power outlets approximately 100’ from the gate site.
· The contracting officer or COR reserves the right to stop work at any time if environmental, safety, or poor contractor performance issues that impede environmental or safety issues.
Deliverables:
· Remove existing Gate.
· Install new Gate.
· All deliverables are required to start by 5/1/2024 and be completed no later than 6/12/2024.
