About this file
This is a 100% Construction Documents Specification document for the rehabilitation of climbing facilities at Camp Muir in Mount Rainier National Park, Pierce County, Washington (PMIS #307228, Specification 140P8525F0011, dated December 3, 2025). The project involves demolition of an existing modular building and replacement with two new climbing shelters plus associated site stabilization work.
The specifications comprehensively detail construction requirements across 31 divisions including general requirements, demolition, structural steel framing, wood construction (nail-laminated timber, structural sheathing, parallel strand lumber), thermal and moisture protection, openings, specialties, equipment, and electrical systems. Key material requirements include gabion basket cladding with stone veneer at walls and roofs, metal stairs with grating treads, elastomeric membrane roofing, aluminum windows, stainless steel foodservice equipment, and complete electrical systems with grounding, bonding, lightning protection, and facility surge suppression. Specific notable requirements include: sealed and laced 4-inch opening gabion baskets with 9-gauge galvanized wire mesh meeting ASTM A-185 standards; rock bolts with 1-inch diameter Grade 60 deformed bars and minimum 5-foot embedment; geotextile separation fabric meeting AASHTO M288; nail-laminated timber (NLT) panels with hand-selected Douglas fir members; and comprehensive administrative procedures including web-based project management software, daily construction reports, weekly progress photography, and detailed submittals for products, shop drawings, and equipment. The project requires contractor quality control testing of all earthwork materials including gradation and compaction, lightning protection system design by LPI-certified master installers with UL or LPI certification upon completion, and extensive operation and maintenance documentation organized by specification section.

routing, clearances, and/or specific locations of work shown diagrammatically in Contract Documents. If applicable, state the likely impact of the suggested resolution on Contract Time or the Contract Sum.
F. Attachments: Include sketches, coordination drawings, descriptions, photos, submittals, and other information necessary to substantiate the reason for the request.
G. RFI Log: Prepare and maintain a tabular log of RFIs for the duration of the project.
1. Indicate current status of every RFI. Update log promptly and on a regular basis.
H. Review Time: COR will respond and return RFIs to Contractor within ten calendar days of receipt. For the purpose of establishing the start of the mandated response period, RFIs received after 12:00 noon will be considered as having been received on the following regular working day.
1. Response period may be shortened or lengthened for specific items, subject to mutual agreement, and recorded in a timely manner in progress meeting minutes.
I. Responses: Content of answered RFIs will not constitute in any manner a directive or authorization to perform extra work or delay the project. If in Contractor's belief it is likely to lead to a change to Contract Sum or Contract Time, promptly issue a notice to this effect, and follow up with an appropriate Change Order request to Owner.
1. Upon receipt of a response, promptly review and distribute it to all affected parties, and update the RFI Log.
2. Notify COR within seven calendar days if an additional or corrected response is required by submitting an amended version of the original RFI, identified as specified above.
