About this file
This is Addendum #1 to Invitation to Bid B-26-06 for Epoxy Floor Installation issued by the Town of Brookfield, Connecticut, on behalf of Brookfield Public Schools. The addendum addresses epoxy flooring installation at Brookfield High School (approximately 1,785 square feet across seven designated areas) and Whisconier Middle School (approximately 710 square feet in the main entrance area). Proposals remain due on June 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a mandatory pre-bid walkthrough held on June 4, 2026, at 2:45 p.m. The addendum includes two alternate bid options: Alternate #1 for moisture testing and barrier installation, and Alternate #2 for new threshold and transition plates. Additional specifications clarify that all access hatches must remain operable, the flooring finish shall be flake finish in School District colors (Royal Blue and Gold), the Middle School entrance walk-off mat must remain in place, and a four-inch rubber cove base in an agreed-upon color shall be installed at the Middle School entrance. The school calendar indicates the last day of school is June 14, 2026, with the first day of school resuming August 27, 2026.
Asbestos testing was performed on May 30, 2026, by Brooks Environmental at Brookfield High School in multiple locations, including floor tile, mastic, and cove base glue from three entrances (Main, Athletic, and Side), as well as boiler #3 insulation samples. Testing revealed 2% Chrysotile asbestos in the mastic sample collected from the Main Entrance floor tile (Sample 7A-Mastic); all other samples tested non-detected for asbestos. Three companies attended the pre-bid walkthrough: Barall & Konover (Joseph Wohlander), Helpyclean US LLC (Pablo Menda), and Turcios Construction (Nelson Turcios). The addendum was issued by Julian Capadose, Purchasing Manager, with contact information provided for inquiries.

RE: Asbestos Inspection (Brookfield High School)
On May 30, 2026 Brooks Environmental performed asbestos inspection at Brookfield High School in Brookfield CT. Samples of floor tile and associated mastic plus cove base glue were collected from three entrances (Main, athletic and Side). Samples were also collected from the number 3 boiler (surface insulation, Fire box, and manifold insulation and Rope insulation between sections). All the samples were submitted to EMSL Analytical Inc. for Asbestos Analysis via EPA 600/R-93/116 Method using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) analysis. Table 1 below summaries the Asbestos results of the samples collected. The Laboratory Report is attached.
Table 1: Asbestos Results

EMSL maintains liability limited to cost of analysis. Interpretation and use of test results are the responsibility of the client. This report relates only to the samples reported above, and may not be reproduced, except in full, without written approval by EMSL. EMSL bears no responsibility for sample collection activities or analytical method limitations. The report reflects the samples as received. Results are generated from the field sampling data (sampling volumes and areas, locations, etc.) provided by the client on the Chain of Custody. Samples are within quality control criteria and met method specifications unless otherwise noted. The above analyses were performed in general compliance with Appendix E to Subpart E of 40 CFR (previously EPA
600/M4-82-020 “Interim Method”) but augmented with procedures outlined in the 1993 (”final”) version of the method. This report must not be used by the client to claim product certification, approval, or endorsement by NVLAP, NIST or any agency of the federal government. Non-friable organically bound materials present a problem matrix and therefore EMSL recommends gravimetric reduction prior to analysis. Unless requested by the client, building materials manufactured with multiple layers (i.e. linoleum, wallboard, etc.) are reported as a single sample.
Estimation of uncertainty is available on request.
