About this file

This document is an excerpt of live fire job performance standards from NAVMC 3500.114, the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Training and Readiness manual. It establishes performance standards for eight distinct fire scenarios that ARFF personnel must demonstrate competency in extinguishing.

The document specifies goals and requirements for extinguishing the following aircraft fire types: fuel spill fires (LFT-3000), interior fires (LFT-3005), auxiliary power unit fires (LFT-3010), engine fires (LFT-3015), wheel/brake fires (LFT-3020), electronics and electric compartment fires (LFT-3025), three-dimensional running fuel fires (LFT-3030), and incident or accident debris fires (LFT-3035). Each standard requires personnel to possess appropriate personal protective equipment, extinguishing agents, and ARFF apparatus. Common performance elements across all standards include agent selection, agent application using proper techniques with handlines, extinguishers, or turrets, and confirmation that fire is completely extinguished. Standards LFT-3005 through LFT-3035 additionally require inspection and mitigation for potential re-flash. The LFT-3000 standard for fuel spill fires differs slightly, requiring agent application using both turrets and handlines but omitting the re-flash inspection requirement. These performance standards serve as benchmarks for training and certification of ARFF personnel responsible for aircraft emergency response operations.
