About this file
This is an informational document from the U.S. Army describing campus-style dining venues and meal card programs for soldiers living in barracks.
The Army provides barracks soldiers with meal cards offering three daily meals converted into daily values: $9.57 breakfast, $15.89 lunch, and $13.57 dinner, totaling $39 per day. Soldiers can spend these designated dollar amounts at campus-style dining venues (CSDVs) at any time throughout the day. Unused breakfast funds roll into lunch and dinner values, and soldiers can scan earlier in the day to view remaining balances. The $39 daily value resets each day without carryover. Soldiers with Meal Entitlement Code 09 can view their remaining balance on receipts.
Key restrictions apply to meal scan usage: a soldier cannot order the same meal at another military dining location (such as food trucks or kiosks) if they have already scanned at the CSDV for that meal period. Overages on specific meal values can be covered using subsequent meal period funds, but soldiers cannot access different dining facilities after scanning. The document clarifies that the $39 daily value is not deducted from soldier pay; it represents the Basic Allowance for Subsistence entitlement. Dining venues are open to all individuals—soldiers on BAS, families, civilians, and contractors—who pay á la carte pricing for items ordered.
