About this file
This document is an Operational Standards attachment for Kentucky Horse Park (KHP), outlining the organizational culture and service philosophy expected of all staff members regardless of position. The standards emphasize the celebration of individual diversity within the organization while promoting unity around a shared commitment to horses and equestrian experiences. KHP commits to providing authentic guest experiences through various offerings including trolley tours, carriage rides, demonstrations, and events, with service interactions designed to be welcoming, engaging, courteous, and present. The document establishes expectations for staff to take ownership of responsibilities, be responsive and proactive rather than passive, and demonstrate leadership in their roles.
The operational standards framework emphasizes gratitude as a core value that strengthens workplace relationships and organizational cohesion, likening it to positive reinforcement for animals. Staff are expected to recognize that guests have alternative recreation options and that coworker relationships directly impact work satisfaction and organizational success. The document reflects KHP's philosophy that collective achievement depends on individual influence and initiative, with all staff encouraged to move beyond assumptions and complacency to actively contribute to the park's mission and guest experiences.

Text version
Each staff position, and staff person, is unique.
This uniqueness provides us with varying views, thoughts, strengths, and weaknesses. Like the countless breeds represented at the Park, we celebrate our individual diversity, while recognizing that there is strength in a herd. Our affinity for the horse binds us together, and we know that we are BETTER TOGETHER!
Since our inception, we have provided authentic experiences for guests to engage our equestrian community (trolley tours, carriage rides, demos, events, etc.). We will continue to honor that history.
To provide authentic service, our guest interactions should embrace our distinctiveness and be welcoming, engaging, courteous, and present.
Our collective success is tied to our individual influence.
Taking ownership of present opportunities (big or small) reduces assumptions and complacency. To be responsive and responsible means that we will not be passive, watching others from the outside. Rather, we will take the lead line, leave the barn, and hit the trails.
We recognize our guests have options before visiting the Park. Likewise, our co-workers make our work enjoyable.
Gratitude is a healthy life-style choice and contagious to everyone around. Showing gratitude mends fences, and builds paddocks. Like treats for our horses, gratitude is always appreciated.
