About this file

This is a sediment chemistry analysis report prepared for the Indian River Channel Phase I – Riverside Canal Maintenance Dredging Project in Brevard County, Florida. The document contains laboratory analytical results for ten vibracore samples collected between April 28 and May 3, 2021, from the project site. The analysis includes comprehensive testing for volatiles, carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), metals, pesticides, herbicides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and semi-volatile organic compounds. Field parameters documented include temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity measurements. All results are compared against regulatory criteria established under Florida Administrative Code Chapter 62-777, including Groundwater Cleanup Target Levels (GCTL), Fresh Water Cleanup Target Levels (FWCTL), Marine Water Cleanup Target Levels (MWCTL), Groundwater Low Yield Poor Quality Criteria (GLYPQ), and Natural Attenuation Default Concentrations (NADC).

The analytical results indicate that most contaminants were detected below or at method detection limits across all samples. Notable exceptions include arsenic, barium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, nickel, and zinc, which were detected in soil samples at varying concentrations. The data indicate that arsenic concentrations ranged from 0.51 to 3.2 mg/kg, all below the residential cleanup target level of 2.1 mg/kg and commercial/industrial level of 12 mg/kg, with the exception of samples from vibracores 1, 4, and 10, which exceeded residential criteria. Benzo(a)pyrene equivalents, a carcinogenic PAH indicator, ranged from 0.045 to 0.84 mg/kg, with only vibracore 4 exceeding the residential criterion of 0.1 mg/kg. All pesticide, herbicide, and PCB results remained below detection limits or non-detectable levels. The analytical data supports environmental characterization of the dredging project area and provides a baseline for assessing sediment quality prior to maintenance dredging operations.
