Project Greenhouse Glazing and mechanical controls
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
Greenhouse Original install 1998. New Glazing (polycarbonate covering) and mechanicals are needed for the greenhouses to continue to function as designed. Three 20 amp circuits intended for supplemental lighting need to be adjusted to match bench layouts. One of these circuits in faulty and need total replacement as well as re-routing.
2.0 Background
1. Description of Greenhouses
a. These greenhouses were built in 1997 by A.J. Lauer Co out of Farmington, MN. Each greenhouse is 28’ x
36’ and they share a middle wall. There is 8 ft. of clearance from the floor to strut channel that holds electrical conduit and receptacles for grow lights.
b. Each house has its own climate control systems consisting of a ridge vent, a wet media swamp cooler system with two exhaust fans each, two natural gas heaters with a central plenum for air flow, and centrally located aspirator type thermostats that give constant readings to the controls panels which are Wadsworth Step 500 units.
i. New climate controllers are needed that interface with existing equipment and replace the designed function of the old Step 500 controllers. This is being taken care of under a separate contract (requisition # 1069788 that was submitted May 24th.
ii. The existing natural gas heaters are in good shape and are also not part of this contract.
iii. This contract is for replacement of the climate control mechanicals and polycarbonate glazing in addition to item c.
c. There are four 20 amp lighting circuits in each greenhouse that are intended for supplemental lighting for plant growth. Three of the circuits in the “west house” need to be rerouted to better align with the layout of the bench zones. One of the four circuits has failed and needs to be rewired and a new circuit breaker installed.
Contractor Requirements
3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks
The contractor will be responsible for removing the old glazing and mechanicals and replacing with new for each greenhouse. Below is the list of equipment for each house that will need to be replaced.
8 mm clear polycarbonate glazing with uv coating and any other installation components (clips, caps, etc.) requited for proper and lasting function.
(2) Horizontal Air Flow (HAF) Fan (120V, 1-Ph, HP, Amps)
(1) Vertical Air Flow (VAF) Fan (120V, 1-Ph, HP, Amps) Air Plenum
(1) Roof Vent Leader (LST) (120V, 1-Ph, 1/20HP, .68Amps)
VC100
(1) Pad Vent (120V, 1-Ph, 1/20HP, .68Amps) VC100
(1) Exhaust Fan - Single Speed (120V, 1-Ph, 1/3HP, Amps) Marathon
(1) Exhaust Fan - Two Speed (120V, 1-Ph, 1/3HP, Amps) Dayton
(1) Pad Pump (120V, 1-Ph, 1/3HP, Amps
The contactor will provide additional wire, conduit, and wiring boxes, when needed. ( these with be waterproof and designed for greenhouse use)
The contractor will ensure proper function of the new equipment. The contractor will train Forest Service personnel on function, proper use, and routine maintenance of new equipment.
The existing fan motors and sump pumps will be left on site as emergency backup components in case of equipment failures.
In addition to climate control mechanicals listed above the contractor will require lighting circuits as described in C.
Lighting circuit components may be reused if serviceable and new components will be waterproof and designed for greenhouse use. Any new hardware will be provided by the contractor.
This is labeled circuit 7 in the breaker box.
4.0 Government Furnished
List any government‐furnished support, data, property or facilities. Describe government responsibility for reviewing and approving reports and final products generated under the contract. If the contractor will require access to government facilities, identify the facility location and specific area. Identify any federal holidays or other times when access may be restricted.
Insert Government Furnished Here
The contractor will have access to the FS building (headhouse) and greenhouses where the equipment is to be installed and restroom facilities.
Federal holidays TBD depending on start date.
5.0 Deliverables / Schedule
Work should not begin until the greenhouse manager (David Carey) is consulted so that we can make sure that no essential work is ongoing.
Work should not begin before September 1st 2022 unless explicit permission is given by the greenhouse manager.
All work should be completed and fully operational by January 13th, 2023.
Work will be completed 4 weeks from start date. This may be negotiated.
Water supplies must be shut off and plumbing supply lines drained if work the structures are temperature cannot be maintained during repairs and temperatures are below freezing.
6.0 Contractor’s Key Personnel
Describe positions which are considered key to successful performance of the contract and the information required to support key personnel qualifications, e.g., experience which correlates to SOW requirements, education, and past performance on similar projects. Specify if resumes are required and provide resume format if appropriate.
Insert Contractor’s Key Personnel Here
1. contractor experienced in greenhouse structures and glazing install.
2. Contactor experienced in installing greenhouse swamp coolers.
3. Contractor experienced in installing electrical fans, pumps and other directly powered mechanicals.
4. Contactor experienced in electoral circuitry and in greenhouse or water resistant circuitry.
Attachment If applicable, include an Attachment stating Evaluation Factors and significant Subfactors representing the key areas of importance and emphasis to be considered in the award decision.
The primary consideration in for awarding this contract, other than price, is that it be awarded to a contractor with experience with greenhouse systems.
If possible, Work should be coordinated with contract requisition 1069788.
It would be best if this contract be posted with contract requisition 1069788 and be awarded to the same contractor.
Both of these contracts are within the normal scope of greenhouse building and repair professionals.
