About this file
This document is a detailed technical requirements specification for a solar power and UPS power system for a call center in Quito, Ecuador. The system is designed to provide a 14-hour power backup through a hybrid grid-connected and solar battery backup solution, with a total estimated power load of 13.1 kW. The recommended configuration includes a 200 kWh lithium-ion battery system with two potential configuration options (8 x 25 kWh modules or 15 x 13.5 kWh Tesla Powerwall units), a 50 kW solar panel array with 125 solar panels (400W each), and a 60 kW hybrid inverter system (recommended Sol-Ark 60K model) to manage power flow between grid, batteries, and solar panels.
The system is engineered for seamless power transition during grid outages, with solar panels providing continuous operation during daylight hours and batteries sustaining operations. Key features include automatic failover, MPPT solar charge controllers, grid-tied configuration with auto switch-over, and the ability to reduce grid consumption through solar offset. The final assessment highlights the system's capability to ensure uninterrupted power for 14+ hours, with the ability to recharge batteries during daylight and reconnect to the grid when available, making it a robust solution for maintaining continuous call center operations in an area with potential power infrastructure challenges.

Detailed Requirements for Solar power and UPS power systems
Solar Power:
Hybrid Grid-Connected and Solar Battery Backup System for 14-Hour Power Backup
Solution: Hybrid system that can charge from both the grid and solar panels. The system should be a scalable solution to meet increasing power requirements while optimizing solar energy for extended outages.
Power Requirement Calculation
Total power based on the call center infrastructure listed in attachment A - Statement of Work.
Equipment Power Consumption per Unit (W) Quantity
Total Power (W)
Server Cabinet (with UPS) 3,500W 1 3,500W Communications Cabinet (with UPS) 3,500W 1 3,500W Agent Workstations (PCs + Monitors) 150W per agent 16 2,400W Supervisor Workstations 200W 2 400W Mac Studio Workstations 250W 4 1,000W Networking Equipment (Switches, Firewall, etc.) 800W - 800W Cooling & HVAC for Cabinets 1,500W - 1,500W
Total Estimated Power Load: ~13,100W (13.1 kW)
Total Energy Required for 14 Hours: 13.1 kW × 14 hours = 183.4 kWh
2. Recommended Hybrid Backup Power System
Backup Power Supply Goal: 14 hours of backup power
Recommendation:
Grid-tied + solar-charged battery system with:
• Battery Bank:
• Lithium-ion batteries with a usable capacity of 190-200 kWh
• Supports charging via grid power and solar
• Modular design for future scalability
• Solar Panel Array:
• 50 kW solar panel system
• Daily solar energy production: 250 kWh/day (assuming 5 hours peak sunlight)
• Directly offsets power use & recharges batteries
• Hybrid Inverter System:
• Handles both grid & solar inputs
• Ensures seamless battery charging & discharge
• Supports automatic failover during power outages
3. System Breakdown
Battery Storage Requirement
• Total backup needed: ~183.4 kWh
• Usable capacity must be ~200 kWh to account for efficiency losses
Recommended Lithium-Ion Battery System (Options):
Option 1: Scalable Rack-Mounted Battery Banks
• 8 x 25 kWh lithium-ion battery modules
• Total: 200 kWh usable storage
Option 2: Tesla Powerwall Alternative
• 15 units of 13.5 kWh batteries
• Total: 202.5 kWh usable
Solar Panel Array
To provide continuous operation during daylight and recharge batteries, the estimated need is 50 kW of solar panels.
• Recommended System:
• 125 solar panels (400W each)
• Solar energy output: ~250 kWh/day (based on 5 hours peak sunlight)
• Enough to power loads directly and charge batteries
• Mounted on the rooftop or ground
Solar Benefits:
• Extends battery runtime indefinitely during daylight
• Offsets grid consumption on normal days
• Provides energy savings to reduce operational costs
Hybrid Inverter System
A hybrid inverter manages power flow between the grid, batteries, and solar panels.
• System Requirements:
• Capacity: 50-60 kW
• Supports multiple power sources (grid + solar + battery)
• MPPT solar charge controllers for efficient battery charging
• Automatic failover in case of power failure
Recommended Hybrid Inverter System:
• Sol-Ark 60K (or equivalent)
• 60 kW hybrid inverter
• Battery-compatible, grid-tied with auto switch-over
• Supports solar, grid, and battery charging
4. System Integration & Operation
1. Normal Grid Operation
• Grid powers all loads
• Excess solar charges batteries
• Grid consumption is reduced by solar offset
2. Power Outage Scenario
• Battery takes over instantly (seamless failover)
• Solar continues to power operations
• Battery recharges during daylight hours
3. Extended Power Outages
• Solar panels + batteries sustain operations
• Grid reconnects when available
• Ensures uninterrupted power for 14+ hours
Final Assessment
• 200 kWh lithium-ion battery system (grid & solar-charged)
• 50 kW solar panel array (for extended backup)
• 60 kW hybrid inverter (for seamless power switching)
