About this file

This document is an oral health promotion bookmark and event flyer created by the Indiana Department of Health's Oral Health Division for the "Hoosiers: Give Kids a Smile!" initiative. The event is scheduled for Friday, February 2, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST at the Indianapolis Public Library Central Library, located at 40 E. St. Clair Street, Indianapolis. Children ages 2-17 are eligible to participate and receive free dental screenings conducted by qualified dental professionals, complimentary dental hygiene kits containing toothbrushes and oral health books, activity booklets and bookmarks, and access to activity stations focused on good dental hygiene education. The program addresses a significant public health concern in Indiana, where approximately 1 in 5 children have untreated tooth decay, which can lead to gum disease and other health complications.

The bookmark component serves as an educational tool providing dental hygiene guidance, including recommendations to brush twice daily for two minutes with fluoridated toothpaste, floss daily, consume tooth-friendly foods, limit sugar and soda consumption, drink fluoridated tap water, and visit a dentist twice annually. The document also includes fun facts about teeth and dental health sourced from the American Dental Association. The initiative is presented by the Indiana Department of Health in partnership with multiple organizations. Additional information about the program and oral health resources is available through the QR code provided and the website https://on.in.gov/GiveKidsaSmileIN.
