About this file
This document package includes drawings and specifications for an exhibit fabrication project at Monocacy National Battlefield Visitor Center. The project involves fabrication and installation of new interpretive exhibits on the second floor of the visitor center building, comprising six scenes with various graphic panels, interactive elements, artifact cases, and audiovisual components. Key materials and finishes specified include direct digital print graphics on wood and acrylic surfaces, cut vinyl lettering, fabric graphic displays, and interactive touchscreens. Electronic equipment required includes a 4K projector, audio description system, and network equipment to synchronize captioning and audio descriptions. The drawings provide dimensions, layouts, connection details and installation requirements for all exhibit elements and components to complete the visitor center exhibit upgrade.

Monocacy National Battlefield | Drawings: Production Design 2
Monocacy National Battlefield | Visitor Center | Drawings: Production Design 2 • REVISED August 19, 2023 2SCALE: As Noted
Project location
Exhibit space defined in the scope of work is approximately ___ sf, and will occupy the second floor of the existing visitor center, outlined above in red.
The existing visitor center is located in Frederick, Maryland, approximately 43 miles NW from Washington, DC, or 43 miles west of Baltimore, Maryland.
Monocacy National Battlefield | Visitor Center | Drawings: Production Design 2 • REVISED August 19, 2023 3SCALE: As Noted
Existing Conditions
The structure is a Gambrel style building. The exhibition space defined in this scope is on the second floor of the building.
Note, the current arrangement of the exhibits obstruct a full view of the architectural space. The space may be in this current arrange-ment at the time of award.
Visitors will continue to enter through the main door (A), accessed via a staircase from the first floor, or via the adjacent elevator.
There are no exhibits planned for the first floor, which houses the information desk, gift shop and children’s learning area.
Structural laminated roof ribs/beams are exposed in the interior space. The interior walls and ceilings are sealed knotty pine. The wooden exposed elements will not be painted or otherwise refin-ished. Also exposed is the central HVAC trunk at the top pitch of the roof, as well as fire suppresion pipes. Commericial low-pile carpet-ing serves as the flooring in all visitor traffic areas.
No architectural or mechanical modifications are planned for the base building structure. The park will perform some building prep tasks, outlined later in this package.
The ribs of the gambrel structure repeat approximately every 16’.
Non-structural partitions between the ribs create a sense of vertical walls, approximately 10’ high, between the ribs. There are small ac-cessible cavities behind these partitions.
The current exhibits are arranged in a non-structural thematic core (“D” in magenta at left) as well as around the perimeter of the space against the partition walls. A horizontal timeline system of panels, suspended from the ceiling, follows the majority of the perimeter.
Track lighting, suspended from the ceiling, generally follows the perimeter partition walls.

Our heart grows sick over the statements we constantly hear in reference to the devastation of our beautiful country. With houses destroyed, fences torn down, crops ruined, stores robbed and private residences pillages, a dis-tressing spectacle of waste and desolations meets the eye at almost every step.”

Platform: facing edge painted black
Aged canvas “Tent”
Note attachment points
Repurpose artifacts:
• Field Desk
• Ink well
• fife
Desk wil also display recreation of antique handwritten letter.
Repurpos mannequin, seated
Canvas “tent”backdrop and canopy should have aged ap-pearance. Should be draped loosely to be consistent with a tent, not stretched tight. Visible support poles should be sleeved in canvas, similar to exisitng tent vignette.
Fabricator may choose to reuse exist-ing components from exisitng field tent vignette, if desired, to be determined at post-award visit.
Top front of tent vignette can have appearance that the front of the tent canvas is gathered and tied at the top with canvas straps to provide viewing access into the “tent”. This is a recreation of the tent vignette in the current exhibit. While it does not need to reuse the tent materials, the visual intent for this new display is similar to the existing display.
