About this file
This is a specification attachment for an acoustic and/or vibration monitoring system contract opportunity in Tennessee. The project requires the furnishing and installation of a 16-channel single-axis accelerometer monitoring system with eight accelerometers mounted to the underside of a core structure roof level concrete slab (one at each corner, one at the middle of both long sides, and two in the middle region) and eight accelerometers attached to the underside of the perimeter building roof level deck (one at each corner and one at the middle of each side). The system must include a self-contained cellular modem for remote access, scan all sensor channels simultaneously at a minimum rate of 10 kHz, detect excessive vibratory and/or acoustical events, and provide continuous monitoring and measurement of vibrations and acoustic anomalies. The specifications reference detailed framing plans and suspension frame details for proper installation locations and include requirements for corrosion-resistant conduit, proper grounding per NEC standards, electrical continuity testing per International Electrical Testing Association standards, and component inspection to ensure no damage.
The contract is structured in five line items: Item 16950.1 covers furnishing the vibration and/or acoustic monitoring system with all associated labor, materials, equipment, and tools; Item 16950.2 addresses installation, testing, removal, and repairs to existing finishes; Item 16950.3 requires training and site supervision by an independent contractor; Item 16950.4 mandates monitoring, maintenance, and event reporting services for a six-year period following installation completion; and Item 16950.5 covers offsite storage of backup data. Prior to system energization, the contractor must verify electrical continuity, test for short circuits, inspect all components for damage, verify signal quality, confirm appropriate trigger thresholds to prevent false alarms from normal activities, and validate all remote communication capabilities.

ATTACHMENT A
Acoustic Monitoring System Specifications
1. A total of 16 single-axis accelerometers, such as , PCB 353-B33 or Endevco Isotron 43A or equal set to record each event that exceeds a preset trigger threshold and mounted at the following locations:
a. At the core structure roof level slab, attach 8 accelerometers to the underside of the concrete slab shown in Figure 1. This would consist of 1 at each corner, 1 at the middle of both long sides, and 2 in the middle region of the slab.
b. At the perimeter of the building roof level, attach 8 accelerometers to the underside of the deck as shown in Figures 2 and 3. This would consist of 1 at each corner and 1 at the middle of each side.
c. Remote access to the system would be maintained through a self-contained cellular modem. The modem can either be a combination of gateway and modem, such as a Novatel USB551L in a Cradlepoint router or a self-contained system, such as an Air...
D. Optionally the agency may propose an acoustic monitoring system or an alternate vibration monitoring system. The data acquisition system should scan all sensor channels simultaneously at a minimum rate of 10 kHz and trigger to capture waveform file...
E. The proposed system shall be capable of detecting excessive vibratory and/or acoustical events. The system will continuously monitor and measure vibrations and acoustic anomalies at selected locations. The system will provide a means of immediately...
F. Installation cost shall include but not be limited to furnishing and installing the wiring for the monitoring system suitable for the temperature, conditions, and locations. Any conduit for electrical wiring shall be corrosion resistant and approve...
G. Upon completion of installation of all wiring, cabling electrical boxes, and equipment shall be properly grounded in accordance with NEC.
1. Prior to energizing, the contractor shall check the installed wires, cables, and transmission media for electrical continuity and for short circuits. The testing shall conform to the International Electrical Testing Association Acceptance Testing S...
2. All cable and system components shall be inspected at the project site to ensure all components are not damaged.
3. Once complete system is installed, the system shall be tested to verify the signal quality, to verify that appropriate trigger thresholds are set so that normal activities will not trigger notice of a normal event, and to verify that all remote com...
1. Item 16950.1 – Furnish vibration and/or acoustic monitoring system including all labor, material, equipment, tools, and all incidental work involved in furnishing the system to the job site.
2. Item 16950.2 – Installation and testing of the monitoring system including all labor, materials, tools, and all incidental work involved in the installation of the system including removal and repairs to existing finishes.
3. Item 16950.3 – Provide training and site supervision of installation and system testing by independent contractor.
4. Item 16950.4 – Provide monitoring, maintenance and event reporting of the monitoring system for a period of 6 years after the system’s installation is complete. Include all labor, materials, equipment, tools, and incidental work that may be involve...
