About this file
This document is a specifications package for door replacement work at the Hill City Shop facility operated by the United States Forest Service, Black Hills National Forest, Region 2, located in Hill City, South Dakota. The project involves removal and replacement of three door assemblies: two steel personnel doors on the south and east sides of the building, and one wood door/window assembly on the west (front) side, to be replaced with new steel door/window assemblies. All work includes associated frames, thresholds, hardware, accessories, and painting.
The specifications consist of multiple sections covering general requirements, selective demolition, hollow metal doors and frames, door hardware, glazing, and exterior painting. Key requirements include contractor responsibility for all labor, materials, equipment, and delivery; submission of an accident prevention plan before work begins; protection of the government-occupied building during construction; and field verification of dimensions before ordering products. Hardware specifications require hinges, locksets, closers, thresholds, weatherstripping, and glazing that comply with ANSI/BHMA standards, with locking mechanisms to be coordinated with the government. Base Items under the measurement and payment section are priced as lump-sum quantities. Door hardware includes Forest Service-furnished Yale cylinders (models 1152 and 1801) that contractors must accommodate in specified locks. Paint finishes must be Sherwin-Williams Tudor Brown color or equivalent, applied per Master Painters Institute standards with primer and two finish coats on all exposed metal surfaces. Exterior glazing specifications require insulating glass units with tempered float glass lites and argon interspace. The project site is at 24030 Highway 385, Hill City, SD 57745, at an elevation of approximately 5,015 feet, with the building remaining occupied during construction.
