About this file

This document is a Memorandum for Record detailing salient characteristics for a Vertical Lift Module (VLM) procurement by the 97th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. The requirement is for a single vertical parts storage system with specific technical and software specifications, including an ergonomic design with modular construction, a 10.5" color touch screen operator console, and comprehensive software capabilities for item and location management. Key technical requirements include a unit height between 215-217 inches, 40-60 trays per unit with 1102 lb. capacity, 480 volt/3 phase power, and a storage area of 1112 sq ft, with operator controls located on a swingarm to the right side of the unit.

The software must be developed by the vertical lift manufacturer and include advanced features such as dynamic item allocation, FIFO and expiration date management, customizable reporting, automatic data exchange capabilities, and statistical analysis tools. Additional requirements include a one-year warranty for all components, 24-hour contractor service turn-around, installation by factory-trained personnel, and first-year software support included in the contract price. The procurement is designed to replace an existing system that has proven insufficient in meeting operational demands due to limited capability and recurring breakdowns.

MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD

FROM: 97AMW/MXA

SUBJECT: Vertical Lift Module – Salient Characteristics

1. The 97th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron requires the acquisition of a vertical lift parts management system. The AGE shop has a critical need to replace the current vertical parts storage system. The existing system has proven insufficient in meeting our operational demands, primarily due to its limited capability and a recurring pattern of breakdowns.

Below are the essential characteristics that the system must possess:

DETAILED REQUIREMENTS (Vertical Lifts):

Vertical Lift must be of Ergonomic Design All units must be modular construction, built up from the inside to allow for easy height upgrades.

All components carry a 1 year warranty, including transportation, parts and labor.

The extractor shall be driven by a steel belted tooth drive system for durability and proper alignment/guidance of the extractor).

The vertical lift must be equipped with a central extractor guidance system with a minimum of 8 rollers.

An operator station shall be provided that is easy to use, to store/retrieve stored parts. Screen Operator Console

10.5” or larger color touch screen. The system shall have soft starts and stops. The operator work surface height shall be approximately 33 inches, and have the ability to accommodate maximum media storage of 22”.

The storage unit must have an ergonomic tray/tray delivery height selection from the operator console.

Shelf spacing “Dynamic Height Management System”: must be adjustable on approximate 1” increments to allow for maximum use of vertical space.

The storage unit must come with vertical photo eyes in the extractor column to prevent any damage to contents or unit from an improperly stored item The storage unit must located at a convenient, ergonomic height in the picking bay area.

Operator Interface Location: sliding option to always keep control near the operator. Integrated E-Stop, conveniently located on the interface..

Access Opening Lighting Units -provide for a well-lit picking bay area, aiding operators in clearly seeing what they are picking from the tray. The access opening lighting turns off / on automatically to indicate to the operator when it is safe to pick, so that nuisance light curtain faults are greatly minimized. When it is safe to pick from the tray, the lights turn and stay on. When the pick is complete and the next tray is being positioned, the lights turn off, showing the operator that they should not be picking at that time.

Vertical Lift operator will be informed if a predefined overload is reached – early warning. If this limit is exceeded; the device will be positioned onto the next possible shelf – switch-off.

Partitions, Dividers &Side Wall Extensions: Galvanized, heavy-duty steel construction fully adjustable on 0.79”centers, allowing for layout flexibility to fit any product sizes. Snap-in design ensures secure placement once installed. Easy to install or adjust, no additional hardware or tools required.

Contractor services shall be offered through an office that has a 24-hour turn-around time and must be assured and guaranteed on all requests for service.

The installation and service must be performed by factory trained and authorized qualified individuals.

Disassembly and palletization of existing unit.

DETAILED SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:

All software provided must be developed and owned by the vertical lift manufacturer.

Dynamic item to compartment allocation management.

Dynamic batching and item serial number management.

FIFO and expiration date management.

Item and location management with advanced features such as: free or tabled sub codes, material status management, packaging type management and expiration date management.

Advanced user / operator management, it’s possible to configure for each operator the enabled procedures required for their role.

Customizable print reports and label reports management tools.

Automatically assign an item to a preselected compartment size or location.

An automatic and configurable import / export data exchange with a client’s management system

(host), using text files or shared tabled accessible via ODBC, .XML files, ASCII files, or using Excel files.

Items can be managed with a FIFO sequence or on a sub code based priority.

It is possible to retrieve statistical information of the VLM’s movements and operations, as well as movement causes for immediate item requests.

Provide warehouse statistical analysis tools as well as print report customization.

Software support must be included in the price of the contract for the first year.
