About this file
This is a Color Markings and Insignia (CMI) Approval Request memorandum from the Air Mobility Command Museum to AMC/HO dated December 29, 2025, regarding the restoration of C-133B aircraft 59-0536.
The museum requests approval to repaint the aircraft from its current Dover AFB MATS paint scheme to its original Travis 1501st ATW all-silver livery. The overall silver base coat will use Sherwin Williams Silver Brite (color 17178) or an acceptable alternative, with UV-resistant, direct-to-metal water-based latex paint for all other surfaces. Amarillo USAF font will be used for all alphanumeric markings, with reference to current markings, historic photographs, and TO 1-1-4 (1965) for paint and decal placement. Landing gear and wheel wells will remain unpainted. The paint scheme includes black (17038) for the nose radome, 18-inch call numbers "O-90536" on both vertical stabilizer sides, stabilizer leading edges, lower wing surfaces, fuselage aft sections, tail stripes, data plate information, propellers, and wing ice detectors. Blue (15044) will be applied to "U.S. AIR FORCE" lettering (30 inches) on forward fuselage sides and "USAF" (55 inches) on upper right and lower left wing surfaces. Red (11136) will mark propeller rotation stripes (2 inches wide), APU exhaust ports, landing gear strut cover panels, and pitot static ports. Yellow (13538) will be applied to propeller tips and cuffs, emergency exit edges, and tail stripes. Insignia include 45-inch national stars on engine nacelles and wings, 36-inch MATS insignia on fuselage sides, 30-inch US flags on vertical stabilizers, and a yellow call number lozenge with black numbers "0536" on the nose. All insignia and markings will match current applications except for removal of the white fuselage cap and relocation of left vertical stabilizer call letters to match the right side.
