About this file

This is a Color Markings and Insignia (CMI) Approval Request memorandum from the Air Mobility Command (AMC) Museum dated December 29, 2025, for aircraft C-124A 49-0258. The museum requests approval to repaint the aircraft from its current standard MATS paint scheme to an all-silver configuration using Sherwin Williams Silver Brite or an acceptable alternative, with UV-resistant, direct-to-metal water-based latex paint for other painted surfaces. All alpha-numeric markings will use Amarillo USAF font, with paint and decal locations referenced against current markings, historic photographs, and TO 1-1-4 (1965 technical order).

The paint specification includes silver (17178) for all fuselage, wings, engines, and vertical/horizontal surfaces, with landing gear and wheel wells left unpainted. Black (17038) will be applied to the nose radome, glare shield, 18-inch call numbers "0-90258" on the vertical stabilizer, "MILITARY AIR TRANSPORT SERVICE" text on both fuselage sides, propellers, wing upper surfaces aft of nacelles, walkways, tail stripes, and data plate information. Blue (15044) will mark "U.S. AIR FORCE" in 30-inch letters on the forward fuselage and "USAF" in 60-inch letters on wing surfaces. Red (11136) will be applied to propeller rotation stripes and engine nacelles (#2 and #3). Yellow (13538) will mark propeller tips, cuffs, emergency exit edges, and tail stripes. National star insignia (50 inches) will appear on fuselage and wings; a 36-inch MATS insignia on both fuselage sides; a 30-inch US Flag on the vertical stabilizer; and a white call number lozenge with black numbers "1258" and black border. The museum director, John Taylor, digitally signed the request on December 30, 2025.
