About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for depot maintenance work at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for FY 2025, specifically for upgrading and repairing the Secondary Propulsion Unit (SPU) Rotational Deployment Mechanism (RDM), including the rotary joint and hydraulic training motor.

The work will be performed by Curtiss Wright Electro-Mechanical Division (CW-EMD) at their repair facility in Cheswick, Pennsylvania. CW shall refurbish and upgrade the RDM per Submarine Maintenance Standard (SMS) 2380-081-029 Rev C, Change 1, and execute in-shop testing of the RDM assembly, rotary joint, and training motor per SMS 2380-081-027 Rev, Change 5. Critical deliverables include objective quality evidence documenting replacement of 24 training motor mounting studs and nuts, internal condition documentation of components showing seawater corrosion or contamination, test results for all shop testing (including test medium, temperature, pressure, and duration), hydraulic motor worm shaft breakaway torque measurements, and certification of all new materials procured. Portsmouth Naval Shipyard will provide the RDM assembly in a reusable container, perform final engineering evaluation and disposition of non-conformances, and procure long-lead time materials required for shipboard reinstallation. The Period of Performance extends from 01 May 2026 through 01 May 2027, with the RDM assembly to be delivered to CW no later than RM00 and returned to PNSY no later than 6 months prior to UD48. Enclosure 1 lists long-lead time materials to be procured by CW, including RDM components, hydraulic training motor parts, miscellaneous materials, and rotary joint components, organized by category with part numbers, descriptions, and quantities.
