Project 25 Andro & Saco HVAC Upgrades General Information

1.0 Scope of Work

The Scope of Work is to replace damaged HVAC equipment at two locations on the White Mountain National Forest.

At the Androscoggin (Andro) Ranger Station, the 4 air conditioning units (York H2CE120A250 – 10 ton, York H4CE090A25C – 7.5 ton, and two (2) York H2DBO48S25A – 5 ton) must be replaced with current models that utilizes modern refrigerant that adhere to the current standards. The air conditioning and air handling units must be removed and replaced with new equipment.

In order to access the air handler in the mechanical room, two propane boilers may need to be removed. While the boilers are removed, corroded plumbing at the connection points to the boilers is to be replaced, and the boilers are to be serviced. After the new air conditioning units and air handler are installed, the propane boilers are to be reinstalled.

At the Saco Ranger Station, the non-functioning R22 air conditioning unit is to be removed and replaced with a Rheem RHERGEDYB120ACG22BAA or equivalent unit as approved by the Forest Service.

2.0 Background

The cooling and air handling equipment at both the Androscoggin and Saco Ranger Stations have reached the end of their serviceable lives. With new standards in refrigerants and energy efficiency requirements, the existing equipment is functionally obsolete. We are no longer able to source new parts to keep these units functioning. Without the operable climate control equipment, the buildings have the potential to reach dangerous temperatures for sensitive groups in the summer.

Contractor Requirements

3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks

• Androscoggin Ranger Station o There is limited access to the equipment located inside of the Andro’s mechanical room. In order to access the air handler, the two (2) propane boilers may need to be removed from the path of travel.

o Each of the propane boilers require maintenance. This maintenance will be performed to bring the boilers up to normal operating conditions. The valves, ignition system, plumbing, gaskets, and seals will all be inspected and replaced if necessary.

o There is advanced corrosion on the plumbing at the connection points to and from the propane boilers. This damaged plumbing is to be replaced with new equivalent plumbing before the boilers are reinstalled.

o The 4 air conditioning units on the exterior of the building is to be removed and replaced with an equivalent unit that meets the current standards of refrigerant and energy efficiency.

o The air handler unit is to be removed and replaced with a system that meets the current energy efficiency requirements and is compatible with the replacement air conditioning and existing heating equipment.

o All work is to adhere to all current plumbing, electrical, fire codes, and comply with all environmental regulation and laws.

o All removed materials are to be disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.

o All personnel on site must be certified or supervised by a licensed or certified technician.

• Saco Ranger Station o The existing R22 air conditioning unit at the Saco Ranger Station is to be removed and replaced with an equivalent system that is compatible with the existing equipment and complies with all current environmental and energy efficiency standards and practices.

o All work completed must meet the requirements of all plumbing, electrical, and fire codes.

o All removed materials are to be disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
