About this file
This document is a technical specification for a heavy-duty flatbed trailer to be procured by the US Forest Service. The trailer is designed for transporting equipment and materials, particularly for use with Fireline Plow loading operations, with an estimated lead time of 10-12 weeks from order receipt and current pricing of $67,900.00 plus $8,148.00 federal excise tax.
The trailer must meet strict capacity and structural requirements, including a minimum 50-ton capacity at highway speed with weight concentrated in any 10-foot deck area, supported by documentation of a 2.5 safety factor on main load-carrying beams and gooseneck. Key dimensional specifications include a 13'6" deck length, 8'6" platform width, 47' total trailer length, and 34" maximum platform height. Frame construction requires minimum 80,000 lbs steel strength I-beams with pierced beam construction, 6" cross members on 24" spacing, and continuous welds meeting American Welding Society standards. The gooseneck features a full-width design with SAE heat-treated 2" king pin, 82" swing clearance, and height accommodating a 48-52" fifth wheel. The 2" hardwood oak flooring installed lengthwise must withstand concentrated loads of 100,000 lbs on the rear deck. The beavertail requires 0.25" steel floor plate with 3/4"x3/4" traction aids on 12" centers and 6' minimum length. Power-operated steel ramps, preferably 10' length, include 3/8"x2"x2" angle iron traction on 8" centers. The suspension uses Hutch 9700 heavy-duty axles with 24,000 lb capacity per axle and three 25,000 lbs minimum capacity axles with 71.5" track. All metal components must be primed and painted with two coats of gloss orange paint, with 12-volt LED lighting meeting DOT requirements including overside load strobe lights. Warranty coverage includes one year on the entire unit for material and workmanship defects, plus five-year warranty on structural members. Two complete operator and parts manuals and warranty information must be furnished with delivery.
