About this file

This document is a specification sheet for a heavy-duty flatbed trailer to be procured by the U.S. Forest Service. The trailer must have a minimum 50-ton capacity at highway speeds with concentrated weight distributed across any ten-foot deck area, including directly behind the gooseneck. The bidder must submit calculations demonstrating a 2.5 safety factor on main load-carrying beams and gooseneck. The trailer specifications include a deck length of 13'6", platform width of 8'6", overall length of 47' (excluding ramp overhang), and maximum platform height of 34" with a 3-foot slope from wheel well to load deck. Ground clearance to the beavertail bottom must be 18" to 20" when loaded.

Frame construction requires I-beam minimum steel strength of 80,000 lbs with continuously welded construction on both sides, top, and lower flanges. The gooseneck must accommodate a fifth wheel height of 48-52 inches with full-width design and minimum 1/4" metal in the gooseneck bottom. The trailer deck shall feature 2" hardwood oak flooring installed lengthwise and raised 3/4" above the outside rail, coated with sealant rather than paint. The beavertail minimum length is 6' with 0.25-inch thick steel floor plate and traction aids. Ramps must not exceed 11' length with 10' preferred for Fireline Plow loading and include electric/hydraulic power units. Suspension consists of a Hutch 9700 Heavy duty type or equivalent with three-leaf springs rated 24,000 lbs per axle. The trailer includes air-actuated brakes on all wheels, LED lighting meeting DOT requirements with mid-span turn signals and rear strobe lights, three 25,000-lb minimum capacity axles with 71.5" track, and ten-stud unimount disc wheels with 255/70R 22.5 radial tires. All metal components shall be primed and painted with two coats of gloss orange paint. The warranty covers one year free from material and workmanship defects on the entire unit plus a five-year warranty on structural members. Current pricing is $67,900.00 plus Federal Excise Tax of $8,148.00 with an estimated lead time of 10-12 weeks from receipt of order.
