About this file
This document is a technical specification for a security gate operator to be installed at the Green Mountain National Forest Supervisors Office. The specification details requirements for an electrically operated horizontal slide gate with specific technical parameters: the gate operator must handle gates up to 2,500 lbs, operate on 208/230 Volt AC single-phase power, and feature a control voltage of 24 Volt DC. Key technical requirements include a soft start/stop mechanism, adjustable speed up to 12 inches per second, a corrosion-resistant chain, and a weather-resistant 14-gauge steel cabinet with a lockable, gasketed cover.
The specification outlines comprehensive requirements for the gate operator's mechanical and electrical components, including a 1 HP motor with thermal overload protection, solid-state logic controls with 15 diagnostic LED indicators, and an auto-close timer. Additional specifications cover compatibility with various accessories like radio controls, keypads, card readers, and sensors. The operator must comply with safety standards ASTM F2200 and UL 325, and include features such as an integral manual hand crank, thermostatically controlled heater, and adjustable obstruction sensing. The document is part of Solicitation Number 12444325Q0031 for the Department of Agriculture Forest Service Eastern Region, specifically targeting the replacement of a security gate operator at the Supervisors Office.

PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS
A. Gate Operator
a. Electrically operated horizontal slide gates must be manufactured and installed to comply with the safety requirements of ASTM F2200 and UL 325.
b. Gate Operator System
i. The slide gate operator shall open and close cantilever, overhead, or track gates, to provide convenience and security. Operator shall be adapted to function with most accessories including: radio controls, electro-mechanical locks, single and three button control stations, digital keypads, coded cards, sensing loops, telephone entry systems. The operator shall utilize 208/230 Volt AC single phase. Control voltage in each case is 24 Volt DC.
ii. Capacity:
1. The gate operator shall be rated to operate a gate weighing up to 2500 lbs.
iii. Design Criteria:
1. Intermediate chain supports with anti-catch design shall also be supplied. Manual operation shall be by means of an integral foldout hand crank.
2. The operator shall include a soft start, soft stop and adjustable speed feature. The operator shall open and close the gate at a speed up to 12 inches per second.
3. The chain shall be coated with corrosive resistant chain coating. Corrosive resistance exceeds nickel plating.
iv. Components:
1. Standard mechanical components shall include as a minimum.
a. 14 gauge, weather resistant steel cabinet with a gasketed cover which is fully removable and lockable.
b. Post mounting standard (existing material may be re-used if compatible).
c. Heavy duty right angle oil bath C-face gear reducer.
2. Standard electrical components shall include as a minimum:
a. 1 HP motor with thermal overload protection.
b. Solid state logic controls featuring 15 diagnostic L.E.D. indicators and auto-close timer (1 second to 9 minutes).
c. Includes thermostatically controlled heater and artic gearbox oil
d. Inherent, fully adjustable motor over-current sensing to detect obstructions with separate adjustments for opening and closing directions.
e. Power On/Off switch.
f. Contacts for opening, closing and reversing accessories, as well as contact and non-contact obstruction sensing devices (existing base may be re-used if compatible).
g. Adjustable limits with precision snap-action type limit switches to control gate position and variable speed control.
3. Accessories, contact, non-contact, and control devices:
a. Control devices include pushbuttons, radio controls, keypads, card readers, key switches (existing material may be re-used if compatible).
b. Contact and non-contact devices include photoelectric sensors, vehicle detectors, proximity sensors, and contact edges (existing material may be re-used if compatible).
v. Factory Inspection and Testing
1. Manufacturer shall test each operator at factory to assure smooth, quiet operation.
2. Manufacturer shall test all control inputs to ensure proper function.
2.02 FENCE / GATE ACCESSORIES
A. Caps: Cast steel galvanized; sized to post diameter, set screw retainer.
B. Fittings: Sleeves, bands, clips, rail ends, tension bars, fasteners, and fittings; steel.
