Line Posting and Maintenance Attachment

If checked, the following line posting or boundary maintenance items will be completed with this land survey contract. Reference the Line Posting Diagram Exhibit for sign placement and blazing diagrams.

_____ Corner monument signs. Each corner monument, found and set, shall have a Land Survey

Monument sign on a post within three feet of the corner monument. The post will be installed on federal land facing the monument.

__X__ Mark boundary line. 60d spike with 6” pink whisker shall be placed on line every 200’ on specified boundary lines along with a lath with pink flagging and marked “Point On Line”

_____ Sign boundary line trees. Trees on federal land and within 3 feet of the boundary will be signed at intervisible intervals not to exceed 250 feet between signs. Signs attached to trees will be anchored at least five feet above the ground using 20d galvanized nails, with the sign facing away from federal lands. Only line trees greater than 6 inches in diameter (DBH) will be used.

Nails should extend out of the tree 1-1½ inches to allow for tree growth. All sign materials will be provided by NPS.

_____ Mark boundary line trees. All trees 6 inches in diameter (DBH) or larger located on federal land within 3 feet of boundary lines shall be blazed five feet above ground intervisible between other lines trees or boundary markers. The blaze will be painted with red NCP Coatings BarkMark or equivalent. Trees on line will have a blaze on each side of the tree, facing the direction of the boundary. Trees off line but within three feet of the boundary will have a dual blaze facing away from federal lands. The dual blaze will consist of a larger 2-3 inch wide by 5-6 inch tall above a smaller 2-3 inch by 2-3 inch blaze.

_____ Clear line. The federal boundary line should be cleared and cut of vegetation to achieve a line of sight between monuments or boundary markers. The cleared line width should be no wider than 3 feet. Only underbrush and trees less than 3 inches diameter (DBH) will be cut and removed. Trees greater than 3 inches diameter (BDH) will have all lower branches cleared off the trunk to a reasonable height to provide visibility along the boundary line.

_____ Line Maintenance. Previous posted and marked boundary line shall be maintained to a level as to meet the standards above for Marking and Clearing line, with the following exceptions: 1) all trees with acceptable blazes shall not be re-blazed; 2) any signs in legible condition need not be replaced; 3) signs and posts previously placed in error or on old boundary lines should be removed, with the location of each post collected and noted, and; 4) any signs or posts removed as noted above shall be returned to the government for proper disposal.
