PHASING NOTES:
Revisions: Date:
This project complies with VA Directive 0056 "VA Sustainable Buildings Program" and the 2016 Guiding Principles for New Construction and Modernization, as noted below.
1.0 – Employ Integrated Design Principles
1. NC&M Criteria 1.1 – Integrated Design and Management (Core Criteria) - Met
2. We established sustainability goals as part of the project and incorporated into relevant design documents. Option 1 was followed; We used a collaborative, integrated process and team to plan, program, design, construct, commission, and transition to operation the New Construction.
3. NC&M Criteria 1.2 – Sustainable Siting (Core Criteria) - Met
4. We followed Federal Management Regulation requirements to make a positive contribution to the surrounding landscape, and specifically addressed the
National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 in collaboration with the state Society of Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), to maintain the contributing factors of the existing historically significant buildings with the new construction. Site sustainability was established through a series of detention areas and catch basins to manage stormwater collection and release to not add additional strain or load on the existing site systems. The existing corridor system utilized on campus to provide conditioned, sheltered access to the full campus will be extended, so that residents maintain easy access to the site facilities and amenities.
5. NC&M Criteria 1.3 – Stormwater Management (Core Criteria) - Met
6. The new construction disturbs a surface area greater than 5,000 Square Feet, therefore we developed a site strategy to maintain / improve property hydrology, in accordance with Statutory Requirements.
7. NC&M Criteria 1.4 – Infrastructure Utilization and Optimization (Non-Core Criteria) – Met
8. We prioritized on-site transportation to promote resident travel through the protected and conditioned corridors. The project staff and residents are currently accounted for in the campus parking plan, therefore no additional parking is planned / needed for this project. The vehicular loop that currently exists in the courtyard is being removed, and replaced with a smaller, parallel drop-off lane.
9. NC&M Criteria 1.5 – Commissioning (Core Criteria) – Met
10. Commissioning will be employed through a commissioning process to verify that the building and its commissioned components, assemblies, and systems
(including district heating and cooling system, and cooling towers) comply with the VA’s project requirements. A certified Commissioning Agent will be performing and completing the project commissioning.
