This is a bid specification document issued by the State of California, Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Division of Equipment, for the procurement of a 3-cubic-yard sander body with anti-ice and directional roll-off capabilities. The specification details the minimum requirements for an integrated roll-off skid directional sander body suitable for installation on a two-axle truck chassis. The unit must feature a rear discharge directional spread spinner system with anti-ice liquid application and a pre-wet system. The specification references multiple Caltrans drawing sets that form part of the contract requirements and establishes that the unit shall be the manufacturer's standard production model with modifications as needed to meet specifications. The body must be supplied as a complete, welded, working assembly free from defects, and the contractor must comply with Caltrans Equipment Quality Standards for Welding and Coatings. Installation of the body will be performed by State personnel, and any technical changes must be authorized in writing by the Department of General Services.
The specification establishes comprehensive technical requirements including body construction from stainless steel with interior hopper opening dimensions of 120 inches minimum and a width not exceeding 96 inches, granular capacity between 3.0 and 3.5 cubic yards, and liquid reservoir capacity of minimum 200 gallons. The unit must include a dual counter-rotating 7-inch diameter variable pitch auger conveyor system, directional spinner chute assembly with electronic operator control, anti-ice system with inline flow metering, pre-wetting system, complete roll-off lift frame, hydraulic systems with Parker FEM/FEC Series quick-connect couplers, and LED lighting components from specified manufacturers. All materials must be new and free of defects, with all welding performed to American Welding Society standards. The specification mandates stainless steel hardware throughout, continuous welding except where noted, a mounted passenger-side ladder rated for 350 pounds, integrated grate screens with safety lockout mechanisms, and delineation striping using reflective chevron and fluorescent orange materials. Paint finish must be lead-free and compatible with DuPont Imron 5000 or Sherwin Williams Genesis for future touch-ups, with no paint applied to stainless steel or poly tank surfaces. The contractor must supply dimensional drawings and a 3D model to the Caltrans Specification Engineer for approval prior to fabrication and participate in a post-award meeting to finalize design details and resolve any interference issues.
