About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details a fire alarm re-wiring and voice notification system upgrade project for the National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment in Ames, Iowa. The project requires replacing existing fire alarm wiring with new fire alarm-rated twisted pair shielded wire across the building's basement, 1st through 3rd floors, and two penthouses, including integration with two elevators. The contractor must expand the existing Simplex 4100ES fire panel system to include voice notification capabilities, installing speakers in major walkways, laboratories, penthouses, and conference rooms.
Key technical requirements include complying with NFPA 72 standards, using an addressable microprocessor-based system with multiplex signal transmission, maintaining 25% spare circuit capacity, and implementing prerecorded voice notifications with public address system functionality. The project has a 180-day performance period, requires certified electricians, and mandates a 30-day "burn-in" period for system testing. Contractors must provide monthly progress reports, maintain as-built drawings, and demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of electrical experience with references. The acquisition is a small business set-aside under NAICS code 238210, with a small business size standard of $19M.
