About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) response related to a fire alarm system upgrade project. The RFI addresses five key questions from potential contractors, covering topics such as superintendent assignment, fire alarm prints, cabling requirements, and speaker placement.
The Statement of Work (SOW) provides detailed guidance for the project, specifying that contractors must replace existing wire with new fire alarm-rated twisted pair shielded wire, install speakers in specific locations including labs, conference rooms, and penthouses, and follow NFPA 72 guidelines for emergency voice/alarm communication system spacing. The document includes a comprehensive list of 41 lab rooms where speakers should be installed, and provides technical specifications for detector placement, emphasizing the need to ensure effective emergency communication throughout the facility.

Question Response 1 Request for PPQ Form See Attachment 5
I am assigning the superintendent role to my Major Subcontractor as allowed by FAR. Can I submit his resume as my assigned Superintendent? Per FAR 52.236-6 this is allowable.
While on the site visit we found fire alarm prints and was wondering if we could get copies of those. The prints are dated 2/2/25 From Johnson Controls project number 320:650657331 Drawn by N Stultz See attachment 6
New wire was pulled. Will this new cable be staying or are we to bid this for 100% new cabling or just new cabling to part of the devices? If its just part of the devices are you able to tell us what devices already had new cabling ran to them?
The SOW states "Contractor shall replace existing wire with new Fire Alarm rated twisted pair sheiolded wire. Where the existing wire is run in conduit, new wire will use conduit. New devices added during the Voice Notification may have wire flown or installed in conduit as needed". It is unknow what devices had new wire run to them. Treat it as total replacement.
How many speakers are needed per floor. The prints aren't clear on what needs to be added and ran as well as location of each speaker device
To calculate the spacing for Emergency Voice/Alarm Communication Systems (EVACS) in buildings according to NFPA 72, follow these guidelines: Additionally, SOW states one per lab, conference room, penthouse.
Ensure the distance between detectors does not exceed their listed spacing and that there are detectors within a distance of one-half the listed spacing from all walls or partitions extending upward to within the top 15 percent of the ceiling height.
For irregularly shaped areas, the spacing between detectors can be greater than the listed spacing, provided the maximum spacing from a detector to the farthest point of a sidewall or corner within its zone of protection is not greater than 0.7 times the listed spacing. 1
These guidelines are essential for ensuring that the fire alarm system is effective and can effectively communicate with occupants during emergencies. It is recommended to consult with a professional or refer to the NFPA 72 guidelines for precise calculations and compliance. Additionally, SOW states one per lab, conference room, penthouse.
