ITEM DESCRIPTION, AND SPECIFICATIONS

GENERAL

The USDA-Agricultural Research Service’s Livestock and Range Research Lab located in Miles City, Montana, has a requirement for obtaining alfalfa hay to feed livestock being used as part of research projects examining cattle reproductive physiology, nutrition, and genetics that are funded through federal appropriations.

Task 1:

• 600 tons of alfalfa hay to feed to cattle.

o Delivery of the 600 tons will be:

Round, net-wrapped bales only between 1200lbs.-1500lbs.

Deliveries to begin ARO 01/26/2026

HAY SPECIFICATIONS:

a. Must be from 2025 crops.

b. Must be domestically grown.

c. Must be sun-cured with no moisture damage, no heating. Properly stored and well cured.

d. Shall be free of mold, dust, weeds or grasses not considered healthy forage for domestic animals.

e. Shall be suitable for feeding cattle, with a crude protein level between 15% and 22%.

f. Hay shall be free from animal contamination, dangerous pesticides and foreign matter of any kind (i.e., wire, nails, or other debris).

g. Quality test results should be provided if available.

BALE REQUIREMENTS:

a. Hay shall be round; net wrapped in bales.

b. Bales shall be delivered directly from fields or barns via clean vehicles not used for transport of livestock.

c. Bales shall be uniform size and circumference.

d. Loose bales or broken bales will not be accepted.

The alfalfa hay shall be delivered by the contractor to the following location:
