About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement and delivery of a replacement hydraulic cylinder for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's (BEP) Department of Currency and Facilities (DCF) baler system. The contractor must procure and deliver one hydraulic cylinder, model number 4518 with specifications of 8 bore x 44.56 strokes (44 act) F.Mt., for a DCF baler model 203, serial number 994150, used at the BEP facility located at 14th & C Streets, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20228. The cylinder serves as the primary driver for the baler's heavy ram or platen, which compresses currency trimming and other materials into dense bales. The requirement is marked as urgent and compelling, as the baler is currently the only trash compactor in operation at the facility.
The contractor must deliver the hydraulic cylinder within 90 days from issuance of the purchase order to the BEP Annex Loading Dock in Washington, D.C. Upon delivery, the contractor shall perform a visual inspection in the presence of the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and Subject Matter Expert (SME) to verify the cylinder for any damage or defects incurred during transport before acceptance. The contractor must provide the COR with the exact delivery date to coordinate scheduling with the receiving platform. Installation will be performed by a government-employed stationary engineer from the DCF Powerplant following delivery. A COR will be designated by separate letter to monitor all technical aspects of contract performance and maintain communications regarding technical requirements and any deficiencies.

Statement of Work DCF Baler Hydraulic Cylinder
DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY
BUREAU OF ENGRAVING AND PRINTING
14th & C Streets S.W.
Washington, D. C. 20228
SECTION I: Background
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is a component of the Department of the Treasury that prints U.S. currency and other security products. The BEP is located in Washington, D.C, and is approximately 1.4 million square feet in area and is a combined production and administrative facility. The Contractor shall procure and deliver one hydraulic cylinder, number 4518, 8 bore x 44.56 strokes (44 act) F.Mt. for the DCF baler, model number 203, serial number 994150, to the BEP/DCF. The machine is used as a trash compactor to bale currency trimming that is collected from the currency production sections. The primary hydraulic cylinder of the baler drives the heavy ram or platen forward; as hydraulic fluid fills the cylinder, it generates the immense force necessary to crush loose materials (such as cardboard, plastics, or non-ferrous metals) down to a fraction of their original size, creating dense bales. The current hydraulic cylinder is damaged and needs to be replaced urgently. The maintenance of this machine is the sole responsibility of the DCF power plant once the part is purchased.
SECTION II: Purpose
2.1 Product, Service, or Outcome Needed.

Once the part is procured, installation will be carried out by a government-employed stationary engineer from DCF Powerplant. This request is urgent and compelling, as the baler is currently the only trash compactor in use at the facility.
