About this file
This document is a comprehensive set of technical specifications for a traditional asbestos abatement project at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System's Building 1, Level 1 Clinics. The project involves removing approximately 220 square feet of ceramic tile, mortar, and grout, and 4 pipe fittings ranging from 2 to 6 inches in diameter, with an estimated total quantity subject to a +/- 10 percent variation.
The specifications provide extensive detailed requirements for the asbestos abatement contractor, including mandatory qualifications for personnel, comprehensive safety protocols, respiratory protection standards, decontamination facility specifications, and strict monitoring procedures. Key requirements include maintaining a negative air pressure environment, using specialized personal protective equipment, implementing rigorous decontamination procedures, conducting continuous air monitoring, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state of Iowa regulations. The contractor must submit a detailed Asbestos Hazard Abatement Plan and provide documentation of worker training, medical surveillance, and regulatory compliance before beginning work.
