About this file
This file is a PowerPoint presentation about the Military Health System (MHS) Information Platform (MIP) by Chris Nichols, Program Manager for Enterprise Intelligence and Data Solutions (EIDS). The MIP is a comprehensive data analytics platform that consolidates over 130 data sources, compiling more than 5 petabytes of active data from diverse healthcare systems including MHS GENESIS, legacy clinical systems, and purchased care data. Key capabilities include data as a service (standardized data sets), analytics as a service (BI/AI/ML tools), and data applications as a service (custom UI/UX interfaces for clinical and operational decision-making).
The presentation highlights significant accomplishments such as launching the Health Information Archive, completing the MHS Mart database migration to Amazon GovCloud (saving $2.5M over five years), and processing 3.6 billion clinical notes with Natural Language Processing. Future goals include transforming 80% of product delivery to DevSecOps, deploying enterprise tools, migrating sites to the Health Information Archive, improving data literacy, and delivering normalized data sets based on OMOP standards. The platform supports various stakeholders including military medical research, readiness systems, population health, and partnerships with federal agencies like the VA, CDC, and other health organizations.
